Position Overview



Reporting directly to the Client Care & Support Supervisor, the Receptionist is accountable for: provision of administrative support to Management employees, Canterbury Foundation departments, the Board of Directors, and residents. The position involves a high level of interaction with seniors, co-workers and oversight of department employees and requires strong interpersonal and relationship building skills. The position requires limited physical endurance (e.g. use of photocopier; reaching; bending; lifting; keyboarding; use of telephone).

The position is comprised of two fundamental areas of accountability:

Administrative Support



Primary Job Functions

Adhere to all departmental and corporate policies and procedures. Provide a broad range of administrative support and coordination functions. Ensure safe work procedures are adhered to. Receipt of payments for resident's invoices. Maintain petty cash, prepare and forward deposits to the Business Office. Facilitate and manage support to Food Services (tray requisitions, meal ticket sales). Document all information received from any source, whether verbal or observational, in the reception log book,
Performance Standards

Residents and visitors are greeted in a polite, prompt and courteous manner. Incoming telephone calls are answered and directed as required in a polite, prompt, and courteous manner. Administrative and word processing support to Managers, employees and residents is provided as needed. The Executive Director's requests for assistance in matters dealing with Board or administrative matters are met in timely fashion. Incoming corporate mail is received, processed and distributed in an efficient and timely manner. Tasks involving management of cash receipts are completed in an accurate and timely fashion. Residents' food tray requisitions are completed and forwarded to Food Services accurately and efficiently. Records of meal ticket sales are accurately tracked and recorded.

Safety and Security



Primary Job Functions

Monitor incoming Emergency Call Alerts and ensure they do not go into overtime. Contact HCA/RN if over 5 minutes. Respond to smoke/fire alarms in the Court and Manor. Ensure that hospital, split key and resident vacation lists are maintained and distributed to designated recipients.

Performance Standards



Emergency Call requests for assistance are addressed in a prompt manner. If not, document in the logbook and make the Health Services Director aware. All fire alarms are handled in accordance with Canterbury Foundation emergency procedures. Records of meal ticket sales are accurately tracked and recorded.

Required Skills/Competencies



In performing the above duties described above, the Receptionist will:

Demonstrate good time management, budgetary, and problem-solving skills. Demonstrate strength in communication skills (informing/listening/writing). Possess good computer skills and knowledge of computer applications including basic word processing, use of email, and spreadsheet data entry. Have a flexible schedule. This is a casual position that has no guarantee of weekly hours but will be called when shift coverage is needed (holidays, weekends or short notice.)

Required Education/Experience



The Receptionist will:

Complete or have completed WHMIS training. Complete or have completed First Aid training. Possess a High School Diploma Have experience in a senior's housing/lodge or care setting (equivalent experience will be considered) Have proficiency in Microsoft Office Knowledge of computers and relevant software application Knowledge of customer service principles and practices Keyboard skills Ability to work a switchboard

Pay: $18.73-$22.48 per hour
