About us:



Opened in 1978, Bryony House is one of the largest impact organizations in Nova Scotia. We provide 24-hour emergency services for women, with or without children, escaping intimate partner violence. Each year, approximately 470 women and children stay with us. Our dedicated counselors are there to answer the 24-hour distress line and provide individual/group supportive counseling, public education, advocacy, and referrals.

At Bryony House, we aim to serve our clients with dignity, respect, and without judgment. Women who contact us come from many walks of life, socio-economic classes, and cultural backgrounds and we are committed to efforts to reflect the population we serve.

Principle Duties Include:



To provide overnight support and services to families and individuals who are experiencing or have experienced IPV.

Duties include but is not limited to: Answering the 24-hr distress/crisis line; intake for women and children coming into the shelter; both crisis and supportive counseling, safety planning, advocacy and referrals, as well as household duties that support residents during their stay at the shelter.

Qualifications:



Undergraduate degree and/or experience in Social Work, Community Services, Women's Studies, with current First Aid/CPR and non-violent crisis intervention.

Experience and knowledge of working with women and children who have experienced various levels of violence and trauma as well as the basic principles of crisis intervention - de-escalation strategies. Proven track record of dependability and reliability in an employment setting Experience providing resources and support for individuals who use drugs and/or are in the process of recovery from addiction. Experience delivering services and support to people who have experienced trauma and are living with mental illness. Understanding the cycle of abuse and its impact on women and children Knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice and Justice, Equity, Diversity, Decolonization, and Inclusion best practices.. Proven record of dependability and reliability in an employment setting. Demonstrated capacity to manage conflict within the work place with professionalism. Basic skills in the use of Excel, Microsoft Word, etc.

Requirements:



Certifications: First Aid/CPR, Behavioral Crisis Intervention Training (MANDT, NVCI). The ability to read & instructions as required and communicate in an efficient manner in a team-oriented setting. Work while standing for up to 8 hours and lift 50 pounds. You can provide a clear criminal record/vulnerable sector check.

Hours of Work: Work on a casual basis throughout the year, called in as needed and to work on an hourly basis, day time, evening and overnight shift work.

Wage: $25.18 an hour
