NAIT's Mechanical Engineering Technology program, in the School of Manufacturing and Automation, is recruiting a casual instructor to join their team at the main Edmonton campus. The candidate for this position should be an enthusiastic leader of students, have well developed communication, interpersonal and organizational skills, be committed to student motivation and achievement, be able to work independently within established policies, and work cooperatively as a team member.
Ideally, the successful candidate should have experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Component selection and design of the following:
  • belt and a chain drives
  • machinery to transport a bulk materials including:
  • belt conveyors
  • bucket elevators
  • screw conveyors
  • pneumatic conveying systems
  • Analysis of machinery vibration for preventive and predictive maintenance
  • Design of jigs and fixtures
  • Manufacturing cost estimating
  • Quality Assurance
  • Precision measurement along with inspection techniques applied in a lab environment
  • Use of statistical techniques as a means of controlling production
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct classroom/lab instruction while utilizing appropriate instructional strategies to maximize student motivation and learning in a skill-building environment.
  • Evaluate the learning process: Ensure learning is evaluated in a reliable and timely manner, providing appropriate and timely feedback to students; Submit marks/records promptly.
  • Maintain professional and ethical relationships with students and colleagues.
  • Respond to student issues.
  • Utilize appropriate educational technology for presentations, communications and program promotions
Qualifications:
  • An undergraduate Degree in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 3 years recent, relevant industry experience. A diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology with a minimum of 5 years recent, relevant industry experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Eligibility for registration with APEGA or ASET.
  • Experience in delivery of outcome based adult education is desirable.
  • A working knowledge of MS Office software.
  • A working knowledge of AutoCAD, Inventor, and ISO9000 Quality Management System would be an asset.
Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services (WES), International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) or the Comparative Education Services (CES).
Remuneration: $99/Scheduled Instruction Hour. (Classification - Instructor Casual Credit).
All casual instructor assignments are covered by the NAIT Academic Staff Association (NASA) Collective Agreement
Please note: As part of the interview process, candidates will be required to do a short teaching demonstration. The teaching demo will be as follows: Please create a lesson on any topic covered in the program. You can present any phase of the lesson (around 5-8 minutes), and the panel will act as your students.
