The Yukon School of Visual Arts (SOVA) offers a rigorous eight-month Foundation Year Program in the sub-arctic community of Dawson City, Yukon, situated within the traditional territory of the Tr\'onde\xcc\x88k Hwe\xcc\x88ch\'in.

SOVA is entering its second decade of operation as a first-year undergraduate level educational institution overseen by a Governance Council composed of the Dawson City Arts Society, Tr\'onde\xcc\x88k Hwe\xcc\x88ch\'in First Nation and Yukon University. Graduating students can complete their BFAs at SOVA-affiliated art schools across Canada, including OCAD University, NSCAD University, Alberta College of Art + Design, Emily Carr University of Art + Design, and Mount Allison University.

This undergraduate-level English course focuses on the development of academic writing skills, including an emphasis on the relationships between creative written language and visual practices. Instruction will be provided in research methods, critical reading, building a logical argument, and writing an academic essay.

Through a diverse and intensive engagement with academic writing, and to a lesser extent creative writing, students will develop literacy skills that will support them as emerging professional artists. The course includes a research paper, a final exam, and will also include some field trips during class time as part of Orientation and class activities.

The course is offered in a condensed 6-week format, running from September 6 - October 20, 2023.

Successful applicants for this position will have a minimum Masters of English degree or relevant experience. Interested candidates are asked to submit a letter of introduction describing areas of teaching experience, and a curriculum vitae.
