Description of Duties





Luther College invites applications for a temporary casual cook to join our team on an as-needed basis. The successful candidate will be called in to work during peak times, special events, and when additional kitchen support is required. Reporting to the Manager of Culinary Services, the chosen candidate will be working in a fast-paced, busy environment as part of a team where service to students is the top priority.


Responsibilities:





Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


Adhere to and maintain a respectful workplace; Bake bread and a wide variety of desserts for large numbers of people; Follow a menu and cook for large numbers of people; Complete grocery lists; Prepare and deliver caterings as needed; Assist with serving customers who come through the line; Clean and maintain cooking/baking equipment; Wash dishes for a large number of people; Complete other tasks as assigned by the Manager of Culinary Services; Work closely and appropriately with students, residence and support staff, teachers and administration.

Qualifications:




Completion of grade 12 or equivalent; At least 2 years of baking/cooking experience preferred; A demonstrated commitment to employee health and safety practices and procedures is required; Knowledge of kitchen management would be considered an asset; Great knife skills would be considered an asset; The ability to lift moderately heavy loads in a safe manner; A team player with good communications skills; Being flexible with frequent schedule and menu changes; Being organized, friendly, patient, reliable and hardworking; Service oriented perspective with internal and external clients;

Work Hours





This position is on an as-needed basis. Hours will vary depending on event schedules and staffing needs, and there are no guaranteed hours. Shifts may be offered on short notice based on availability.


Salary and Benefits





The salary range for this position is $16.30 to $19.57 per hour.
