DescriptionThis position is a part of the Non-Academic Staff Association (NASA).This position has an end date of up to one year from the date of hire.Location - Work primarily takes place at South Campus Edmonton. Working with members of the interdisciplinary health care team and graduate students, the Clinical Research Assistant will provide both research and administrative support.Duties

  • Works closely with the PI to assist with grant preparation, ethics and operating approval applications and renewals
  • Maintains all inventory of supplies and materials required
  • Conducts routine monitoring of standard operating procedures
  • Participates with training new staff and students and acts as an on-site resource to trainees
  • Assists with communication and knowledge transfer of new technologies
  • Participates in recruitment with service providers on-site such as Alberta Health Services, Clinical Research Unit, University of Alberta
  • Obtains informed consent, schedules appointments for participant laboratory test, conducts interviews, promotes participant compliance to the protocol, facilitates the completion of the research protocol, and responsible for data collection (including data entry, checking, and managing research data)
  • Coordinates orientation and ongoing development of junior research team members (e.g. summer students, undergraduate students, graduate students and trainee positions)
  • Recruits research personnel when needed
  • Organizes research team and advisory group meetings
  • Integrates new team members into research program routines and practices
  • Trains research team members on ethics and protocol procedures as needed
  • Oversees ongoing professional development of research team members offering feedback on their performance as a team member and their research skills (e.g. conducting interviews)
Qualifications
  • Minimum completion of post-secondary education in a related field. BSc in Nutrition preferred; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 1 to 2 years of experience in a clinical setting is a significant asset
  • Understanding of and experience with applied research methods and practices, expertise in nutrition or physical activity
  • Excellent organizational, analytical and communication (written and verbal) skills
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently and with accountability in a positive manner
  • Ability to perform well in a setting that requires multitasking and a flexible work schedule
  • Excellent research and administrative skills, including strong organizational skills, attention to detail, excellent written/verbal communication skills
  • Ability to adhere to deadlines and compliance with University of Alberta Policy/Procedures and Grant Agency Guidelines
  • Knowledge of the Canadian healthcare system is an asset
  • Proficient in using information systems and programs including bibliographic management software (e.g. End Note) and Microsoft Office Suit software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
