is responsible for creating a stimulating, safe and nurturing environment for children to learn and grow, communicate and to provide support to families at the YMCA of Cape Breton. The Centre Cook is responsible for ensuring proper food handling, while following best food practices and schedules. The Centre Cook is an asset in ensuring the Centre is complying with YMCA Playing to Learn program requirements and the Education & Early Childhood Development Regulations and National YMCA Child Protection Standards.?
Duties
Responsible for the safety, needs and well-being of each child in the Child Care Centre.
To ensure that daily routines are followed, snacks, cooking lunches, cleaning the equipment and the kitchen.
Responsible for menu planning twice a year (Fall and Summer).
Responsible for weekly grocery order(s) and pickup.
Proper guidelines for dishwashing and sanitizing are followed.
To adhere to the YMCAs of Nova Scotia Best Practices.
Ensure food handling certificate is up to date and current.
To communicate with staff and parents on a professional basis.
Complete daily kitchen check list
Other duties as assigned by Director
Qualifications
Experience working in childcare and/or kitchen settings
Maintain current first aid and CPR certification.
Maintain a clean Criminal Record Check which includes a clear Vulnerable Sector Check.
Provide and maintain an up-to-date Child Abuse Registry Check.
Attend Child Abuse Protocol Training.
Note
: Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check/ Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Abuse Registry Check. They will also be required to attend YMCA Child Protection Training, as well as successfully complete First Aid and CPR training.
