JOB DESCRIPTION:

Reporting directly to the Provincial Lead: Education & Training, the CAST Coordinator will build and nurture relationships with community members, those who have lost loved ones to suicide and organizations seeking to enhance suicide prevention training/skills, etc. to develop and enhance local capacity to address suicide across the province.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The key responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Provide and facilitate accessible standardized suicide intervention and mental health programming/training (example: ASIST, safeTALK, Living life to the Full, TeamUp, CMHA NS Core modules, and Thrive Programming) throughout the province. Develop practical resources and support for public education and awareness for suicide prevention and life promotion. Oversee and manage the Talk Today Initiative within Nova Scotia Nurture and build relationships with other organizations focused on suicide prevention through community engagement such as in-services and outreach opportunities. Complete and maintain core certifications for the position as required (ASIST, SafeTALK, TeamUP, etc.). Lead and enhance public awareness regarding suicide prevention and life promotion (example: public awareness campaigns, collaborating with local media outlets and providing interviews, suicide awareness day events). Contribute to ongoing research and update the CAST Hub (Example: scholarly articles, best practices, resources, etc.). Publicly advocate and educate for suicide prevention and life promotion. Develop and lead project proposals and grant applications specific to CAST. Prepare and track budget while predicting resources needed. Measure and evaluate program success and identify areas for improvement. Participate and contribute to the development of a Community of Practice amongst facilitators. Participate in the Education Department initiatives (workplace training, Thrive programming, team collaborative projects, and other duties as assigned). Other duties as assigned
LOCATION: Virtual, home-based office environment. Travel required across the province.

WORK SCHEDULE: This is a full-time position, working generally from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday (37.5 hours/week). Some evening and weekend work required, with frequent travel across Nova Scotia. This position requires a combination of working in a home office environment and in community, with our community partners. We offer a flexible work environment, and a workplace culture committed to personal wellbeing and psychological safety.

A valid Nova Scotia Driver's License and access to a vehicle is required. Reimbursement will be paid as per the Expense Policy.

WORKING CONDITIONS: As outlined in the Working from Home policy, the employer will provide basic equipment necessary for a home office. The employee will be required to have a suitable designated workspace and reliable high-speed internet. A cell phone will be provided.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience with suicide prevention work. Experience related to community mental health and wellness. Experience in group facilitation (in-person and virtual). Experience in public speaking and/or presenting to large audiences. Experience developing educational content. Experience working with NGOs, community-based organizations, interest groups and government. Relevant experience working/volunteering with equity seeking communities. Familiarity with the mental health system in Nova Scotia. Lived experience with mental illness is considered an asset. Current Certified ASIST trainer. A clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check are required. Post Secondary Education required - Bachelor's Degree or equivalent A valid Nova Scotia Driver's License and access to a vehicle is required Current Certified Trainer of mental health programs (Examples: Living Life to the Full, safeTALK, TeamUp, Living With Grief, Mental Health First Aid, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, etc.)
