About the role:
The Supportive Housing Caseworker position will report to the Housing Coordinator or their designate who in turn will report to their Department Director. The Supportive Housing Caseworker, under the management of the Housing Coordinator, will undertake the objectives of Carruthers Enhanced Supportive Housing, building community, working with marginalized population. The Supportive Housing Caseworker position is a foundational role that ensures the daily and weekly routines of the enhanced housing program are maintained while supporting clients in meeting their basic needs (physical, emotional and mental health) working collaboratively with the case management team. Supportive Housing Caseworkers are responsible for providing trauma - informed standards of care for the community.
As the successful candidate, you have:
Education:
University Degree/College Diploma in the Social Sciences
Experience:
Minimum 2 years experience working with vulnerable populations. In particular those experiencing homelessness, addictions or varying mental health needs.
Training:
Willingness to be trained in required skill areas
Language
: Bilingualism a strong asset
Essential Skills:
Strong rapport building skills
Excellent writing and organizational skills
Strong interpersonal, assertive engagement and communication skills
Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, manage multimodal interventions and efficiently work under pressure.
Additional Assets:
Working knowledge of systemic factors which contribute to experience of long-term homelessness
Experience or knowledge of Indigenous cultures, traditions, or community practices
Lived Experience
A willingness to work in collaboration with a wide variety of community partners, agencies and emergency services.
Ability to use sound judgement
Basic understanding of the application of research to program design.

Handle responsibilities as
Clinical/Case work Responsibilities
Complete standardized assessments to evaluate the client's risk and need areas, and to develop and implement various intervention plans to address those areas of need. Intervention plans include behavioral modification plans, safety planning, money management, etc. Intervention development will utilize behavioral, cognitive behavioral and social learning approaches.
Establish with the client achievable, time specific goals, and identify intermediate targets for change
Develop and maintain process for consistent engagement with residents. Including regular meetings in units with residents, on the floor or common spaces.
Maintain knowledge of and assist clients with referrals to appropriate community service agencies and educational/vocational programs
Prepare and attend all clinical supervision sessions as required.
Maintain professional development through participation in relevant training, participation in supervision and through Caseworker development plans
Program/Building Responsibilities
Facilitate and develop plans for life skills building sessions to help foster resident capacity for independence
Intervene and provide support to client crises and basic needs
Develop a comprehensive recreation calendar of events and meaningful daily activities.
Ensure a comprehensive understanding of the Rita Thompson Enhanced Supportive Housing Operations Manual and adhere to all protocols associated with that manual
Actively communicate care plans and engagement opportunities with support workers to support resident wellness.
Adhere to all additional security and/or safety protocols associated with Rita Thompson Enhanced Supportive Housing.
Attend staff meetings as required
Assist in maintaining a positive environment for residents and colleagues
Support the residents to follow rules and expectations of building and program
Complete any follow up with the coordinator as it relates to residents/building safety and emergency preparedness planning
Provide supervision to student placements as requested
Participate in the residence on-call rotation, adhering to the relevant policy and procedures.
Perform other duties as may be occasionally requested.
Report Writing/ Administrative
Ensure resident file notes are maintained on the client information management system
Produce additional written reports, care plans, and records as required
Submit necessary statistical information as required
Maintain consistent communication and develop positive relationships with the external collateral agencies, significant individuals, and other professionals involved with the residence
As appropriate participate in client case conferences and other obligations involving a resident
Participate in committees or meetings as requested by the Housing Coordinator
Assist with program development and promotion as requested by the Housing Coordinator
Consistently demonstrate best practices within trauma informed care
