Tasks

Evaluate the effectiveness of social programs Interview client individually, in families, or in groups, to assess their situation and problems to determine the types of services required Supervise other social workers, paid para-professional staff, student trainees and volunteers Take authorized protective action when necessary Perform administrative tasks Plan programs of assistance for clients Refer clients to agencies that provide financial assistance, legal aid, housing, medical treatment and other services Provide public education and consultation regarding counselling services, issues and methods Serve as a member of an interdisciplinary team of professionals working with a client group Provide consultation services to government and other organizations Develop prevention and intervention programs to meet community needs Monitor and evaluate Interpret and explain government acts and regulations
