PURPOSE:

The Busby Centre is a community-based agency that believes in the Housing First and Harm Reduction philosophies and practices. We strive to improve the quality of life for people who are struggling with chronic homelessness, significant mental health issues and substance misuse. Our program provides individuals a place to stay, and staff support 24/7, along with a variety of on-site services to help people experiencing homelessness transition to housing and successfully stay housed.

The

Trustee Program Case Manager will oversee and build a case load of voluntary program participants, as part of an Initiative to help individuals and households exiting homelessness and/or at imminent risk of eviction to stabilize in safe, permanent housing, improve their financial stability and enhance quality of life. The case manager will provide case management support along with money management and trustee services to up to 30 individuals within the city of Barrie. This role will work from a participant-centered and harm reduction perspective, working collaboratively with participants and other service providers in the participant's circle of care to identify and achieve the participants' self-determined goals. The case manager will assist participants to create plans that will help prevent future eviction and homelessness through housing assessment, stabilization, goal planning, and linkages to community services. Trustee Case Managers are responsible for administering the daily accounting and financial management of the Trusteeship program.

Please Note: This is a PERMANENT contract, subject to yearly renewal based on employee performance and the availability of sufficient program funding. We are currently hiring ONE (1) PART-TIME employee for this position (could combine with another part-time position to make a full-time position).



LOCATION:

90 Mulcaster Street, 88 Mulcaster Street, various locations in the community

RESPONSIBILITIES:



1. Conduct intake and assessment interviews with participants referred through community partner or through self-referral

2. Provide voluntary trusteeship and financial counselling for program participants including assisting with applications for appropriate benefits and entitlements from OW, ODSP, pensions, etc. Assist participants with access to income and financial management as required

3. Provide one-to-one assistance, case management and life skills education which includes detailed assessment, and working collaboratively with other service providers to support planning and advocacy on relevant health issues, substance use, financial, employment, housing, legal, identification and social supports

4. Work with participants to identify and achieve goals related to substance use, housing, and health as identified by individual service users

5. Maintain ongoing support in the community including office visits and home visits as necessary EMPLOYMENT AVAILABILITY

6. Monitor property issues (rent payment, health and safety, housing standards) and liaise with landlords as required

7. Provide advocacy and mediation for housing retention at Landlord and Tenant Board hearings

8. Connect participants with supports in the community that will help them achieve and maintain stability

9. Participate in active team case management meetings

10. Maintain accurate case management records and complete reporting as required by Funders and Manager

11. Complete evaluation and feedback surveys with participants

12. Intervene and de-escalate crisis situations

13. Demonstrate a strong commitment to quality care and service based on the Busby Centre's mission and values

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY:



All employees are responsible for carrying out work in a way that does not adversely affect their own health and safety and that of others. All employees are expected to learn, understand, and adhere to the Busby Centre's health and safety policies and procedures and keep up to date on any changes, particularly as it relates to new/emerging information related to infection prevention and control.

QUALIFICATIONS:



Post-secondary education in Social Work, Social Service Work, Psychology, or a related field.

2+ years of experience in street outreach, case management, or working with marginalized populations.

Knowledge of homelessness, poverty, mental health, substance use, and systemic barriers.

Lived experience of homelessness and/or experience working with homeless and/or marginalized individuals is an asset.

Familiarity with Housing First, harm reduction, and trauma-informed practices.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and ability to set effective personal boundaries with both clients and co-workers.

Certification or ability to become certified as soon as possible in NVCI (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention) and Level C First Aid and CPR, including working knowledge of AED, is required.

Demonstrated competence to work with challenging behaviour and stressful situations and possess effective conflict and crisis management skills.

Proven ability to problem-solve, multi-task and work independently in non-traditional settings (e.g., streets, encampments, vehicles).

Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle required.

Vulnerable Sector Screening (Police Check) is required.

WAGE:

$24.60 per hour (negotiable upon experience)

SCHEDULE/WORKING CONDITIONS:



Contract,

starting as soon as possible.

The available positions may entail a flexible schedule, encompassing day, evening and night shifts or a combination of all, as well as weekday and weekend shifts. This position works in a direct capacity with vulnerable individuals experiencing a myriad of challenges.
