Compensation: $27.00 per hour

About Our Program



The Equality Project operates a 24/7 supportive housing residence dedicated to supporting Islanders facing hardships.. We provide long-term housing and on-site, wrap-around supports to residents with highly complex needs, including mental health challenges, severe behavioural issues, and active substance use.

Our team is committed to creating a safe, stable, and non-judgmental home environment. We work collaboratively with residents and community partners to foster housing stability, personal well-being, and community integration.

Position Summary



We are seeking a compassionate and resilient Case Manager to provide resident-centered care, on-site support, and comprehensive case planning within our 24/7 supportive housing program. You will be a key member of our team, responsible for implementing support plans, assisting move-ins and orientation, and de-escalating crises.

This role is vital for building trusting, long-term relationships with residents, supporting them in maintaining their housing, and connecting them to the resources they need to work toward their personal goals.

Key Responsibilities



? Conduct comprehensive needs assessments upon move-in and on an ongoing basis. Assist new residents with orientation to the building, their unit, and program expectations.

? Collaboratively develop and implement realistic, resident-centered case plans and internal programs focused on housing stability, health and wellness, skill development, and community integration.

? Use respect, motivational interviewing, and non-violent crisis intervention (NVCI) techniques to establish supportive and trusting relationships.

? Strictly follow all policies and procedures for the safety and security of all residents, staff, and the building.

? Provide a consistent on-site presence and support for residents and work to create positive experiences that build trust and engagement.

? Proactively anticipate and de-escalate crises by maintaining awareness of the building environment and resident interactions.

? Establish and maintain strong working relationships with community service organizations, healthcare professionals, and other agencies to ensure residents are connected to needed services.

? Advocate for residents, raise awareness of systemic issues, and promote fair and equitable treatment. Educate partners as needed on the challenges and strengths of our residents.

? Create and maintain clear records of case plans and partner follow-ups so the entire team is informed.

? Foster a respectful and inclusive living community for a diverse resident population, including Indigenous peoples, BIPOC, LGBTQ2SIA+, couples, and residents with pets.

? Other duties as required.

Qualifications and Requirements



? Successful completion of a post-secondary program (college diploma or bachelors degree) in Social Sciences or a related field.

? Proven experience working with vulnerable populations, particularly those with significant behavioural issues, mental health challenges, and active substance use.

Skills & Abilities



? Strong skills and experience in non-violent crisis intervention (NVCI), de-escalation, and behaviour management.

? Ability to work independently and in a self-supportive manner in a high-stress environment.

? Must be flexible, adaptable, and possess highly effective communication skills.

? Must be prepared to work shift work as part of a 24/7 operational model.

? A strong understanding of the challenges, barriers, and strengths of individuals who have

experienced long-term homelessness.

Required Certifications & Checks



? Must have a good previous work and attendance record.

? Must be able to provide an acceptable Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector screening.

? Must currently hold, or be willing to obtain, the following certifications:

Trauma informed care training o Mental health first aid o CPR/first aid o Naloxone/overdose prevention and response Training o Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASSIST) o Formal case management o Nonviolent crisis intervention o Motivational interviewing o Diversity-inclusion
