Job Description


The NJAC Fatherhood Initiative is searching for an enthusiastic, intelligent individual to join our team of parent education professionals working in fatherhood. As a Case Manager you will provide program participants with interactive, engaging classroom instruction, specialized services, counseling and comprehensive case management to current as well as formerly-incarcerated men and their families, based on an understanding of parenting skills and healthy relationships, re-entry and transition process, family dynamics and the impact that separation and incarceration have on children and the family unit. The Case Manager is responsible for implementing fatherhood programs, services, and referrals. This position is responsible for successfully identifying, and engaging Father(s) in activities that will contribute to improving life choices for their children and their self-sufficiencyRESPONSIBILITIES:\xc2\xb7 Responsible for participant recruitment and retention\xc2\xb7 Conduct participant intake interviews for fathers seeking services; collects demographic and other data for reporting purposes.\xc2\xb7 Coordinate programming schedule, location(s) guest presenters, instructional materials, and supplies.\xc2\xb7 Teach parenting and relationship classes fathers using prescribed curricula and methods\xc2\xb7 Provide individual counseling to fathers to increase participants\xe2\x80\x99 adaptive coping; facilitate good familial communication and interactions and support family re-unification and strength\xc2\xb7 Plan participant-specific interventions that assist fathers to improve their parenting/partnership skills and grow/enhance relationships with their children and the children\xe2\x80\x99s caregiver\xc2\xb7 Develop service plans based on fathers\xe2\x80\x99 needs in relation to emotional and financial support of their family\xc2\xb7 Provide appropriate referrals and follow up to assist in achievement of service plan goals\xc2\xb7 Coordinate and implement special events, graduations and other activities for families and children\xc2\xb7 Receive and respond to routine requests for information\xc2\xb7 Actively support and observe participants in program participation, documenting progress and providing ongoing feedback to maintain self-awareness\xc2\xb7 Identify needs and implement changes in services as needed, in consultation with the Program Supervisor and funder\xc2\xb7 Act as a liaison with outside agencies, represent the program, and provide guidance to outside constituents (teachers, caregivers) in understanding and dealing with the child\xe2\x80\x99s reaction to parental incarceration and criminal justice as appropriate\xc2\xb7 Prepare and submit all required reports, participant and class notes and data including visitation logs, in a timely fashion in nFORM and SecurManage\xc2\xb7 Establish contact with outside agencies to refer or obtain additional services for program participants\xc2\xb7 Achieving program goals as agreed\xc2\xb7 Practice effective techniques for father engagement; demonstrates and encourages father friendliness within the agency, and other community institutions.\xc2\xb7 Promote community awareness regarding the value of involved fathers.\xc2\xb7 Performs other duties as assigned.SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:\xc2\xb7 Demonstrated ability to build rapport with clients/program participants\xc2\xb7 Experience in criminal justice and/or family services environments preferred\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of community resources and services\xc2\xb7 Ability to work with individuals of various backgrounds and cultures\xc2\xb7 Proven ability to maintain timely and accurate records/data for program reporting\xc2\xb7 Excellent technology proficiency (MS Office, MIS systems, remote platforms)\xc2\xb7 Bilingual English/Spanish a plus (not required)\xc2\xb7 Understanding of how intersecting systems of racial, gender, and class discrimination shape conditions for the fathers, children and families they serve\xc2\xb7 A desire to contribute to a workplace and profession which values collaboration, diversity, growth, and respect for all people.\xc2\xb7 Ability to communicate both orally an in writing with individuals for a wide variety of socio-economic backgrounds, including professionals, on-professionals, and the general public, concerning a wide range of subjects and /or situations.\xc2\xb7 Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.\xc2\xb7 Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of the criminal justice system and child support court systems preferred.\xc2\xb7 Ability to work flexible traditional and nontraditional, including occasional evening and weekends.\xc2\xb7 Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with partner agency staff and the general public.\xc2\xb7 Professional appearance and demeanor.\xc2\xb7 Maintain professional boundaries.\xc2\xb7 Ability to maintain confidentiality.\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of counseling principles and record-keeping techniques.\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of community resources.\xc2\xb7 Experience working with person in crisis.\xc2\xb7 Good organizational skills and attention to detail is requiredEDUCATION:\xc2\xb7 Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in Social Work, Sociology, Education, Psychology or a related field with two years of experience in case management, counseling or group facilitation; or\xc2\xb7 Five years of experience in the nonprofit, case management, counseling or group facilitation field with high risk populations, in lieu of bachelor\'s degreeADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATION:\xc2\xb7 Successfully pass Criminal, Education, Substance Use Testing and Driver Background checks conducted by the Organization and Funder\xc2\xb7 Position is based in Hamilton, NJ, but will need to travel to Newark, Trenton, and New Brunswick 3-4 times week.
