As a Cart Maintainer, you'll be responsible for the preparation, delivery, and upkeep of our steel and plastic waste bins and carts. Your vital field work will encompass curbside and communal collections, cart maintenance, and supporting municipal waste inspectors, all while adhering strictly to City and Provincial OHS and environmental safety standards.
What will you do?
Receive and fill out notification orders for all work completed
Select appropriate route for travel to and from assigned work areas where not designated
Deliver, exchange or remove carts from specified customer site locations and return to the inventory/maintenance yard
Deliver and return carts
Conduct safety checks and site hazard assessment when servicing or interacting with residents and other internal stakeholders
Assess and maintain carts for return to service or disposal
Adhere to all work procedures including safety and environmental regulations and procedures
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
:Completion of Grade 12 or higher
Minimum of 3 years of experience in waste management/collection services, including operation of associated collection vehicles and equipment
Minimum of 2 years of experience dealing directly with the public in a customer service role
Skills required for success:
Considerable knowledge of the equipment, procedures, routes, and associated policies and Bylaws related to the City's waste and recycle collection programs
Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with the public on matters related to service delivery
Ability to build and maintain strong relationships and provide a high level of customer service
Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team
Good written and verbal communication skills
Proficient in Vision, Google Workspace (Gmail, Calendar, Sheets, Docs, etc) and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc), and the ability to learn and adapt to evolving technology
Strong time management skills, including the ability to organize, plan, and prioritize time-sensitive work tasks

Conditions of Employment:
Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as wearing steel toed boots, is a requirement for this position
Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position

Work Environment:
Physically capable to use and demonstrate proper lifting techniques and safety procedures
Physically capable of driving for prolonged periods (up to 10 hours per day) while working in adverse weather and road conditions
Overtime work may be required during peak operational periods
