, under the direction of the Superintendent and Foreperson, is responsible for constructing, erecting, installing, maintaining, and repairing structures and components of structures made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel, and other materials.
Qualifications
Understands and adheres to all safety policies and procedures
Knowledge of and proficiency in the practical application of carpentry principles, techniques, and procedures
Able to organize and perform assigned tasks with little supervision
Able to read and understand building specifications, blueprints, and other construction documentation
Understands basic operation of mechanical and electrical building systems and components
Mathematical and analytical skills necessary to perform material and labour estimates
Confident using basic survey equipment including a transit, builder's level, laser level, and rotating laser level
Proven written and verbal communication abilities
Strong attention to detail
Education/Licenses
Registered Carpentry Apprentice or Journeyperson Carpenter
Certificate(s) required to operate applicable equipment
Able to obtain security clearances if required for project
Experience
Minimum two (2) years' experience as a Carpenter in the commercial/institutional construction industry
Functional Responsibilities
Observe and comply with all health and safety regulations, following safe work practices and procedures at all times
Learn and participate in Lean practices and processes, with the goal of continual improvement and reduction of waste
Read and interpret blueprints for work planning
Operate and maintain carpentry tools and equipment
Layout of various tasks throughout the duration of the project, including foundations, interior partitions, parapets, etc.
Build concrete forms, foundations, floor beams and subflooring, install framing for dropped ceilings and bulk heads, frame walls, and erect scaffolding
Insulate, drywall, mud/tape, and paint
Erect roof rafters and sheathing, work at heights
Erect wood framework, walls, partitions, joints, drywall, and rafters
Frame and install doors and windows, floor coverings, ceilings, and trim
Check accuracy of work and make adjustments as required
Handle and transport job materials to the work area as needed
Contribute to, and participate in, the effective use of the Quality Control System
Working Conditions
Construction environment (regularly working near moving mechanical parts/equipment and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, exposure to dust, asphalt, and noise)
Working with various tools and construction materials
Lifting, pulling or pushing, carrying, and manipulating objects of up to 50 lbs
Walking and standing for long periods of time
Bending, crouching, and crawling
Climbing ladders and working at heights
Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required (e.g. hard hat, safety boots, etc.)

Driving a company vehicle and/or operating equipment
