Your Team

Reporting directly to the Site Manager, the Carpenter & Quality Control Technician (12 Month Contract) performs comprehensive housekeeping duties on the Site and interior and exterior of homes to ensure site and home is clean and ready for various stages through the construction cycle, the construction site is tidy and safe with equipment organized, and site clear of debris and hazards. The Carpenter is also responsible for general carpentry duties and repair while assisting the site construction team in constructing housing units to Brookfield\xe2\x80\x99s high standard of quality and workmanship and assists auditing the compliance of buildings under construction for conformance with plans and specifications and building code. \xe2\x80\x8b

Your Key Deliverables

Construction:

Collect and dispose of debris at construction sites complying with waste recycling programs, ensuring garbage collection bins are used efficiently

Perform scheduled cleaning activities in units under construction, including ensuring all team members and trade partners clean up after themselves, and that units are clean at all times

Set up heat and hoarding, as required

Move materials and equipment, ensuring any excess materials are moved to the next site for use and the Site Manager is notified of the material count

Work from blueprints or follow instructions from managers including understanding of general layout, grades, walls, floors, roof and ability to determine height, width, length, and other proportions

Select materials and equipment for the task at hand, utilizing common hand and power tools for general carpentry work and repair

Work with materials such as wood, plastic, fiberglass, or drywall

Perform light touch-ups as required to surfaces such as drywall, painting, finishing carpentry, flooring, cabinets, electrical, plumbing and fiberglass glass tubs, etc.

Work from heights following OH&S Act, Regulation and Code

Support other aspects of Brookfield construction operations and miscellaneous tasks as required.

Quality:

Perform pre-backfill, framing, mechanical complete, and other Quality checks, providing formal documentation to managers and responsible trades

Audit various installed finished materials, building life systems, installations, fixtures and appliance for fit, finish and function

Communicate deficiencies to appropriate trades partners for rectification and follow up on identified deficiencies until rectified

Identify trends or construction issues affecting build quality

Use levels, rulers, plumb bobs, framing squares, and surveying equipment while performing Quality Control duties

Relationships:

Develop and build working relationships with managers, construction team and trades

Safety:

Participate in Brookfield Safety Programs and training and complete required safety inspections, reporting any onsite safety concerns to immediate supervisor

Ensure safety rails on stairwells

Must Haves

3+ years of general residential construction experience, or an active participant in an apprenticeship program, a journeyman or equivalent interior finishing trade experience

Self motivated, Able to work independently extremely critical and required. Detail oriented, strong organizational aptitude and reasonable computer skills required

Effective communication skills; ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders

Valid Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License and vehicle required; must be able to travel to job sites located outside of public transit routes.

Safety Training Certificates (e.g. Basics of Supervision, First Aid and CPR, Fall Arrest, Natural Gas, Propane, WHIMIS, OSHA). We can update expired training.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints

Own personal hand tools, Power tools to be provided for site use.

Tele handler ticket an asset

Physical Requirements

Walk uneven terrain, kneel down, climb a ladder, stairs, crawl or manoeuvre through difficult areas

Physically able to lift/push/pull up to 100 lbs

For safety reasons, ability to hear (hearing aids are acceptable) and 20/20 vision (corrective glasses or contact lenses are acceptable
