Join our team as a Carpenter!




The Carpenter performs skilled carpentry work on construction, renovation, and maintenance projects across agency properties. This includes framing, drywall, finishing, flooring, cabinetry, and installation of doors and windows. The Carpenter interprets blueprints, drawings, and specifications to complete tasks accurately and according to code. They coordinate with the Construction Superintendent to ensure timely procurement and delivery of materials and manage tools and equipment on site. The role requires collaboration with internal teams, contractors, and vendors to support successful project completion.

Qualifications

Education and Professional Certification

A Journeyman certification in carpentry or a related field.

Experience

Minimum three (3) years of carpentry experience in residential, commercial, or institutional construction Experience completing framing, finishing, and general carpentry work to a high standard.

Skills and Characteristics

Skilled in all phases of carpentry, including framing, formwork, drywall, finishing, cabinetry, and renovations. Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality, precise workmanship. Ability to interpret and work from verbal instructions, sketches, drawings, blueprints, and specifications. Ability to work with hand tools, power tools, and motorized equipment (e.g. bobcat, telehandler, scissor lifts) as required. Strong knowledge of construction methods, building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards. Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external Effective time management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks or projects. Ability to set clear, attainable goals and meet Emotional competence and self Flexible and adaptable to changing site conditions, priorities, or project scopes. Open to continuous education and learning and development Committed to health and safety, with solid knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety regulations and other relevant legislation.

Duties and Responsibilities

Services

Perform skilled carpentry work related to construction, renovation, and general improvements across agency properties, including framing, drywall, finishing, flooring, and millwork. Install doors, windows, partition walls, and complete layout modifications as required. Interpret blueprints, specifications, and verbal instructions to complete tasks accurately and in accordance with building codes. Plan and prioritize assigned construction tasks and communicate estimated timelines to stakeholders. Meet with on-site staff and project teams to evaluate progress and address issues as they arise. Update a scheduling and record-keeping system for assigned construction and renovation tasks. Maintain a safe and healthy environment for participants, staff, and the Identify and report on issues related to fire and building code compliance. Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety, WHIMIS standards, and other applicable legislation. Complete reports and documentation clearly, accurately, in a timely manner, and within agency standards. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Leadership

Display positive role modelling, agency values and fairness. Communicate with staff to provide guidance on the proper operation and upkeep of equipment, grounds, and facilities. Provide training and support to employees on best practices, materials, and supplies related to building, grounds, and equipment maintenance. Ensure policies, procedures, and agency standards are being met.

Management of Resources

Manage materials, tools, and equipment to support efficient resource use and reduce waste on job sites. Maintain an inventory and purchasing system by ordering materials as needed, confirming order accuracy, and approving vendor payments for goods and services received. Accountable for the cost-effective stewardship of pre-approved expenses, equipment, inventories, and supplies.

Safety

Maintain, promote, and reinforce safe work habits, practices, and Adhere to written or verbal agency and government regulations, policies, practices, and instructions.

Additional Requirements

The incumbent is responsible for completing all mandatory training requirements for the position as per agency policy and guidelines.



The incumbent must have the training and certification to operate powered mobile equipment.



Employees must hold a class five (5) novice two (2) or higher drivers license and be eligible for coverage under our commercial auto insurance policy.



Wage range for this position is : $26.30 to $33.98 per hour depending on experience.
