Job Description

The City of Corner Brook is presently accepting applications for the permanent full-time position of Carpenter I.

This position reports to the Public Works Foreperson or designate and is responsible for maintenance repairs within the City. This is a senior carpenter position that requires the ability to carry out all carpentry related tasks, including equipment repairs, office renovations, and structure renovation or construction.

Duties and responsibilities include maintaining interior work such as installation of walls, moldings, trims, including plastering and painting and installing various types of counters, cupboards, and shelves. Cabinet making and furniture repairs. Renovation work, including office/workspace modifications. Maintaining office equipment in good condition and completing needed repairs, Commercial door hardware repairs, installation, and repairs to suspended ceilings and various types of flooring. Installing various types of windows and doors including lock sets and hardware. Performing various types of outside work including the construction of concrete walls and footings for buildings and retaining walls, scaffolding. Constructing various types of wooden structures as required. Painting, plastering, and other like duties; and ensuring the safe operation of all tools/equipment including reporting unsafe acts/conditions.

Qualifications: Minimum completion of high school supplemented with at least 3 years of combined experience and training in a related field. Must possess a Journeyperson's Certificate in Carpentry. Must possess a valid Class 5 driver's license.
