Position Purpose summary:
The role is responsible for performing janitorial duties and ensuring The Salvation Army Mount Arrowsmith Soup Kitchen, Church and Food Bank/family Services facilities are maintained in a healthy, safe, and sanitary manner in compliance with applicable standards.
Accountabilities:
The incumbent is responsible for the following range of job duties characteristic, or typical of the job class:Sweep, dry mop, wet mop, and vacuum all floors. Clean under appliances, equipment, and furniture, where accessible. Clean/wipe from dust the surfaces of appliances, equipment, shelves, etc. Clean and sanitize washrooms, i.e. sinks, toilets, surfaces and replenish supplies. Clean storage rooms, closets and floor mats. Clean all janitorial equipment after use each day. Remove garbage from all areas of the building to the garbage bins. Wash windows and mirrors. Keep cleaning products and restroom essentials available. Identify/report to supervisor any repairs that may require an external service provider. Check doors and windows to ensure building security. Perform minor repairs such as electrical (change light bulbs) and plumbing (unblocking toilets, troubleshooting flushing issues), wall parch-painting, light furniture fixing (tighten screws) reports safety concerns and major repair issues to supervisor. Spot wash accessible walls, strip and wax floors, spot cleaning, and shampoo carpets as required. Ensure the general upkeep of external property, keeping sidewalks and entrances clear of snow and ice, including salting, litter pick up and up-keep of storage shed. Monitor and maintain mixed cleaner bottles for custodial use. Ensure that all bottles contain WHMIS compliant labeling. Keep food bank and soup kitchen areas clean and safe by adhering to all health and safety standards recommended by Public Health etc. Contribute to the overall safety of staff, volunteers, donors, clients, and guests (e.g., clear fire exits, cleans spillage; no obstacles inside/outside the buildings) Use personal prescribed safety equipment and clothing as directed by the employer. Report any workplace hazards, dangers, safety issues, injuries, or illness' immediately and ensure care is taken with all equipment and property. Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures. Provide own transportation. May be assigned other related duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:Work environment is typically at the facilities in generally agreeable conditions. Some duties (groundskeeping) should be performed outdoors. The performance of the job requires operating industrial cleaning equipment and tools, mopping/sweeping, reaching, bending, twisting, lifting, occasional ladder work and fine motor skills. Requires moderate to high attention when handling hazardous chemicals and using non-motorized/general cleaning equipment. Ability to lift/move up to 49 pounds. The above responsibilities must be performed in keeping with The Salvation Army's Mission, Vision and Values, in a professional manner, upholding our code of conduct.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities. Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.

Experience and Knowledge:Up to 1 year of prior related experience including custodial and life skills and general familiarity with cleaning and Maintenance: procedures and equipment. Knowledge of Health & Safety Standards.

Ability to work independently and also participate as an active and responsible team member in a cooperative team environment. Self-motivated and reliable Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality Effective organizational and time management skills. Respectful behaviour and positive attitude to tenants and clients to create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere and successful relationships. Attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Exhibit good listening and interpersonal skills, Must comply with all Salvation Army policies, procedures, and associated legislation. The performance of the job requires continuously standing for long periods of time, frequent twisting, bending, crouching, reaching, reaching overhead, pushing and pulling, lifting, kneeling. The performance of the job requires awareness of surroundings to ensure Health & Safety and Food safety protocols. Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.

Weekly Work Hours: 8 hours in the Soup Kitchen, 2 hours at the Church, 8 hours at the Food Bank & Family Services.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $17.85 to $18.76 with a maximum of $22.51.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
