Job Summary
People from across Canada and around the world come to learn, teach and do research at Queen's University. The Custodial Support Services Team in Facilities supports their success by providing a clean, safe, and healthy environment. But that is not all! The Custodial Support Services Team plays an important role as ambassadors for the university. Their daily contact with students, faculty, staff and visitors helps the university to be a welcoming and friendly place.
Facilities is now hiring six (6) full-time continuing Caretakers to join the Custodial Support Services Team. In addition to competitive wages that increase with service, Caretakers may be eligible for shift premiums and a wide range of other employee programs such as; pension, benefits, work wear, tuition support, childcare support plan, and a variety of other work/life wellness programs. The shift schedules currently being hired are as follows:
Monday to Friday, 6:00 am - 2:00 pm
Monday to Friday, 2:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Monday to Friday, 3:30 pm - 11:30 pm
Sunday to Thursday, 10:00 pm - 6:00 am

Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent is preferred, but not required.
Ability to speak, read and write in basic English (Level 4 Canadian Language Benchmark for applicants whose first language is not English - must be provided).
Willingness and ability to understand and follow instructions
Mechanical skills to clean and set-up equipment like a floor cleaning machine
Must be willing and able to work in a team environment that respects the point of view of others
Willingness and ability to work with people at all levels (e.g., front line staff, managers, senior administrators, etc.)
Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check
Must be physically capable of performing the above-noted duties.
Major Responsibilities:
Maintain a safe, clean and healthy environment in and near assigned buildings
Sweep, vacuum, dust-mop, damp-mop, spot clean, wash walls and remove garbage in the following areas:
Vestibules/Entrances
Lobbies
Corridors
Elevators
Escalators
Stairwells (Primary & Secondary)
Cafeterias
Move furniture
Operate a variety of floor care machinery
