Career Coach- Professional Engagement assists, coaches and provides information for professional immigrants looking for work and gaining accreditation. Collects, organizes and analyzes information about clients through multiple sources in order to advise on employment and licensing. Within a collaborative model, will provide one-on-one career and employment coaching and case management services to clients who require assistance in their job search and accreditation goals. Develops, coordinates and facilitates study group sessions for clients preparing for licensing exams and/or improving their workplace communication skills.

Responsibilities:

Career Coaching- 75%

  • Assists clients in looking for professional employment and pursuing accreditation.
  • Meets and interviews clients to determine service needs.
  • Understands accreditation processes for internationally educated professionals.
  • Applies knowledge of the labour market to help clients make occupational and employment decisions.
  • Uses knowledge of community resources to refer clients to appropriate services.
  • Facilitates and develops learning materials for group workshops.
  • Supports clients in improving their workplace communication skills through one-on-one career coaching and group sessions.
  • Helps clients develop a better understanding of their education, work experience and skills and how they translate in the Canadian labour market.
  • Assists clients with job search strategies including writing a resume, information interviewing, networking, using social media platforms and interviewing skills.
  • Develops with their client an action plan that identifies steps towards employment and accreditation goals.
  • Provides one-on-one career coaching sessions with clients.
  • Discusses barriers, attitudes, motivation and life skills with clients.
  • Helps employed clients with job retention strategies.
  • Documents career coaching activities in Mobius.
  • Generates and updates occupational profiles.
  • Researches and keeps up to date with industry, occupational and accreditation requirements.
  • Coordinates with licensed professionals for delivering and development of learning materials for exam preparation study groups.
  • Assesses client readiness for job success/workplace communication and study groups.
  • Coordinates the schedule and delivery of the study groups.
  • Utilizes online learning programs (Brightspace and MS Teams).
  • Applies technical information from licensing preparatory textbooks and learning materials.
  • Co-facilitates sessions with licensed professionals.
  • Initiates contact with employers through cold calling and established contacts for employment and networking opportunities.
  • Develops relationships with recruiters and hiring managers to facilitate engagement with clients.
  • Assists employers in filling job openings and addressing their skill shortages.
Client engagement - 25%
  • Monitors enrollment in workshops and study groups and coordinates next steps.
  • Communicates with government representatives on Mobius entry requirements.
  • Ensures Mobius entries comply with funder requirements and supports staff to follow procedures.
  • Responsible for the engagement/coordination of professionals who are committed to volunteering to support clients in building their professional network; provides information and conducts informal meetings.
  • Builds relationships with community, employers, professionals from a variety of industries and various stakeholder groups.
  • Arranges information sessions in collaboration with career coach team with employers, professionals, licensing bodies, organizations and service providers.
  • Collaborates with manager to offer added value services to clients including self-directed learning opportunities
  • Liaises with service providers in communities outside the Calgary area to coordinate delivery of services for clients living in those communities.
  • Supports manager in month end invoicing and reporting.
  • Provides support to new casual career coaches.
Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum Diploma in Career Development, Social Science, Business, Education and Human Services.
  • 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • An equivalent combination of directly related education and experience may be considered
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree - Career Development, Social Science, Business, Education and Human Services.
  • 3 years of experience in providing services to a diverse clientele.
  • Career coaching experience.
  • Effective group facilitation skills and techniques in a "life skills format"
  • Flexible and creative approach to problem-solving and multi-tasking; able to adapt to change
  • An awareness of programs and services in the community.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, as part of a service team.
  • Excellent communication; high level of diplomacy, tact, and professionalism while effectively coaching clients from various backgrounds and abilities.
  • High level of time management and organizational skills, ability to multi-task.
  • Strong working knowledge in Microsoft Office Programs
  • Creates good rapport with clients and promotes empowerment.
  • Sensitive to multiculturalism and diversity.
  • Facilitates learning of individuals and groups.
  • Respects confidentiality of information.
  • Works under minimal supervision and is capable of making informed decisions.
  • Demonstrates commitment to on-going professional development and presents professional competence.
  • Possesses knowledge of Career Development processes (change, transition and cycles) as well as models and theories.
  • Familiar with career development assessment tools and inventories.
  • Sound knowledge of labour market.
