The Position
The Career Advisor provides strategic leadership in the design, delivery, and evaluation of comprehensive career development and advising services for Redeemer University's students, graduates, alumni, and graduate-level programs. The incumbent equips learners to explore vocational pathways, develop professional competencies, and pursue meaningful employment aligned with their calling. In addition to providing advanced one-on-one and group advising, the Career Advisor leads the development of innovative career education programs, workshops, and curricular initiatives informed by labour market data and industry trends.


The role also involves cultivating and sustaining partnerships with employers, alumni, and community organizations to expand experiential learning and employment opportunities.

Responsibilities

Career Advising and Guidance




Provide advanced one-on-one and group advising to undergraduate and graduate students, alumni, and recent graduates. Support career discernment, job search strategies, professional development, and transitions to graduate study or employment. Apply recognized career assessment tools and evidence-based advising methodologies to facilitate informed decision-making and goal setting.

Program Development and Instruction




Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of workshops, courses, campus events, and curricular initiatives that promote career readiness across academic programs. Deliver classroom instruction and co-curricular programming informed by labour market data, industry trends, and best practices in career education. Collaborate with faculty and academic departments to integrate career development learning outcomes into curricular and co-curricular experiences.

Employer and Alumni Relations




Cultivate and maintain strategic partnerships with employers, alumni, and industry leaders to expand work-integrated learning, internship, and employment opportunities. Represent the University at professional associations, community events, and national networks to enhance institutional visibility and engagement. Strengthen relationships through the coordination of employer outreach initiatives and strategic event planning on and off campus.

Resource Development and Innovation




Oversee the creation and maintenance of career resources incorporating digital tools, labour market analytics, and sector-specific insights. Implement data-informed evaluation processes to assess program effectiveness and guide continuous improvement. Identify and apply innovative practices and technologies to enhance the delivery and impact of career development services.

Team and Institutional Contribution




Contribute to the leadership and strategic direction of the Career Centre in advancing institutional and departmental objectives. Mentor and coordinate student staff and collaborate with colleagues across departments to ensure alignment of career services with institutional recruitment, retention, and student success priorities. Participate in university committees and initiatives as appropriate to support the broader mission of the institution. Preferred Skills and Attributes
Advanced advising, coaching, and mentoring skills. Strong program development and project management capabilities. Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills. Ability to exercise independent judgment, manage multiple priorities, and make data-driven decisions. Demonstrated experience in supporting students with accessibility and accommodation needs. Education, Training & Certifications
Master's degree in Career Development, Education, Human Resources, or related field; OR Bachelor's degree with either a Graduate Certificate in Career Development or CDP Professional Designation Professional designation preferred: Canadian Certified Career Development Practitioner (CCDP), Certified Human Resources Professional/Leader (CHRP/CHRL), Canadian Work-Integrated Learning Practitioner Certificate, or equivalent. Minimum 5-7 years of progressive experience in career advising, employer relations, or student services. Demonstrated expertise in career development theories, assessment tools, and advising practices. Other Requirements
Understanding of Redeemer University (mission, values, and Reformed Christian identity)
