Responsibilities

Orientation/ On-going Education and Training:

  • Support the organizations desired culture among team members.
  • Assist team members to understand the direction provided by their supervisors (e.g. Nurses, Care Coordinators, other dept. managers).
  • Advocate for team members by professionally bringing forward quality improvement ideas or concerns to managers responsible.
  • Provide hands on assistance wherever possible/practical.
  • Be a role model in care and service provision excellence.
  • Support, educate and guide team members on how to mentor and support students effectively.
  • Conduct education and training that aligns with policies, standards and regulations.
  • Encourage team members to attend education and training to enhance their personal and professional growth.
Mentorship:
  • Reaffirm good practices and teamwork.
  • Provide encouragement and support team members.
  • Develop intra-shift cooperation and understanding.
  • Support resolution of any staff conflicts at risk of developing.
  • Support self-care for team members.
Other Duties-General:
  • Demonstrate resident advocacy.
  • Report any concerns immediately to the appropriate responsible person(s).
  • Support management with the implementation of improvements or changes in practice.
  • Support change management practices, advocating for the changes by helping front line teams understand the reasons and motivations for the change, which should always be to maximize the health and happiness of the residents.
  • Provide input into performance evaluations for team members based on objective observation of performance on the floor and attitude with residents, families and other team members.
  • Other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Minimum of 3 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in residential care setting pertinent to role.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and qualifications acceptable to the care home.
  • Evidence of maintaining personal on-going education and training.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Excellent documentation skills.
  • The ability to take initiative; able to work independently and energized by developing the skills and abilities of others both inside and outside personal area of expertise.
  • Demonstrate the ability and temperament to deal tactfully, effectively and cooperatively with residents, family members, contract agencies, staff members, management and visitors.
  • The ability to provide hands-on education and training scheduled or unscheduled.
  • Lifetime learner, quick study, and able to communicate and teach new concepts to others.
  • The ability to educate and train team members who provide resident care and services.
  • GPA and NVCI training.
  • Excellent communication skills, in English, both in writing and verbally;
  • Energetic, positive, a natural leader who has the personal skills to motivate, encourage and support team members
  • Ability to implement and support quality improvements and organizational quality initiatives.
  • Embraces and supports person centered, holistic care and resident personhood.
  • Ability to work as an effective member of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to have flexible schedule to support team members in home shift rotations.
  • Demonstrated strong conflict resolution skills.
Care Aide Coach
  • Registered Care Aide in good standing with the BC Care Aide Registry.
  • Registered Care Aide and in good standing with the HCA Alberta Directory.
  • Excellent documentation skills and electronic charting.
  • Proficient with PCC and POC.
Support Service Coach
  • WHMIS.
  • Ability to coach and mentor in both housekeeping and dietary duties.
  • Food safe.
