Summary

Job Title: Capital Projects Manager

Location: Tumbler Ridge, BC

Schedule / Terms of Employment: This is a full time (40 hours/week), permanent position

Primary Purpose

The Capital Projects Manager will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure an integrated high standard of customer service and project delivery. Reporting to the Vice President Projects and Logistics, the Capital Projects Manager will plan, coordinate, design, and manage project construction, prepare and manage budgets, schedules and programs for capital and special projects. As well, the Capital Projects Manager will lead the implementation and completion of operational readiness programs as part of project handover to end-users / operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct construction teams to ensure construction is done in accordance with approved schedules, within budget and to the approved quality standards;
  • Managing single or multiple projects ranging in dollar value and complexity and overseeing the preparation and implementation of the Project Execution Plan
  • Leading the Front-End Engineering Design process, completing gate reviews, and obtaining management approvals
  • Leading the Contracting Strategy effort relating to construction activities and managing the contractor evaluation, bid and award process
  • Understanding contracts and managing contractors to maximize performance, controlling costs and minimizing claims and change orders
  • Setting safety expectations for the project and leading the team to achieve safety goals, and interviewing and approving personnel from the contractor\xe2\x80\x99s organization, where required
  • Ensuring that proper schedules are issued, reviewed, and used to drive Project performance and provide accurate cost estimates and monthly cash flow forecasts
  • Setting up programs to manage suppliers / vendors, design engineers and consultants
  • Developing a quality control program and ensuring that processes are followed
  • Developing, gaining approval for and managing to project KPI\xe2\x80\x99s and metrics
  • Leading development and implementation of a project risk management plan
  • Preparing and giving presentations to various levels of Conuma Leadership and other stakeholders
  • Timely and efficiently closing out of the project
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in Engineering (e.g. Mining, Civil, Geotechnical)
  • Professional Project Manager Certification
  • +10 years of progressive experience in mining, project and/or construction management
Skills and Abilities
  • Extensive knowledge of capital project management through all phases, including planning, design, construction and project administration / controls
  • Strong skills in the area of budgeting, planning, scheduling, cost control and construction cost management are essential
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written with the ability to negotiate and influence others
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite and at least one project management software
  • Good organizational and time management skills as well as able to prioritize and meet deadlines
