An important support function to the Canine Team, the Assistant Manager - K9 Division is responsible for supporting the Director K9 Division day-to-day operational responsibilities.
The Assistant Manager will report directly to Director - K9 Division. In this role, the Assistant Manager will be responsible for supporting all day-to-day operations of the K9 Contracts and ensuring regular communication with all members of the K9 Team. This role requires the Assistant Manager to have a canine and perform operational duties as needed as a handler.
What you will do:

  • Act as the Assistant Manager and provide operational coaching/support for K9 Supervisors and K9 handlers across all provinces - Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and British Columbia.
  • Plan, coordinate, and monitor all day-to-day activities in collaboration with the Director ok K9 Services.
  • Responsible for K9 Supervisor and Handler compliance of Federal and provincial certifications, legislations, licenses, and regulations.
  • Oversee the schedule coordination and collaborate with the Resource Planners.
  • Management of overtime, vacation requests, medical absences, leave of absences, and workplace injury reports for the entire K9 unit.
  • Manage company assets such as Health and Safety, Vehicle Fleet Oversight, Uniform and Equipment Inventory Management.
  • Support all internal stakeholders including but not limited to Human Resources, Training, Finance, Resource Planning and Front-Line K9 handlers.
  • Responsible for the 24-hour housing, care, well-being of assigned dog(s).
  • Maintain performance standards and certifications required for field operations for self and assigned regional group.
  • Be flexible & willing to work in unpredictable, and often last-minute canine service requests.
  • Maintain weekly and monthly training on explosives detection and maintenance records complying with Contractual / Government Regulations.
  • Ensure K9 Supervisors monitor and audit K9 handler shift, screening, training, and vehicle logs.
  • Ensure K9 SOP's, Post Orders and Handler guides are maintained, updated, reviewed, and understood by all staff on site.
  • Act as a point of contact for client concerns and operational needs.
  • Any additional duties or responsibilities assigned by the Director
Who you are:
  • Minimum High School diploma or Grade 12 education, post secondary is an asset
  • K9 Supervisor experience of at least 1 year, OR
  • Previous supervisory/management experience of at least 2 years
  • Operational K9 handling experience of at least 2 years
  • Must reside or be willing to relocate to the GTA
  • Proficient computer skills, demonstrated in MS office suite of programs
  • Demonstrated experience in coaching and motivating staff
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Demonstrated fiscal responsibility
  • Experienced in business or client relations
  • Ability to prioritize time and focus on key critical business activities
  • Able to work 24/7 on a basis.
  • Must Possess a valid Security license, Provincial Drivers License (G or Higher) with a clear driving abstract, Basic First Aid and CPR certification and valid passport.
  • Able to possess and maintain a Ministry of Natural Resources license to store and transport explosives, Transportation Security Clearance and RAIC.
  • Must be willing to provide a Criminal Record check upon request.
  • Maintain Transport Canada Certification with canine
