Position Description
Barrick is looking for an experienced Senior Permitting and Compliance Specialist to join a motivated and high performing team at the closed Nickel Plate Mine near Hedley, BC.
The successful candidate will lead the development and implementation of permitting and compliance strategies for the closed Giant Nickel and Nickel Plate mines and drive completion of closure and reclamation projects in alignment with Barrick's business and sustainability goals. This role is site based with local travel required. The expected pay for this position is between CAD $119,000 - 130,000 annually.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide visible safety leadership in line with our value of creating a Zero Harm Workplace.
Develop and execute an integrated permitting and compliance strategy in coordination with key stakeholders.
Work directly with the Mine Manager, Senior Environmental Specialist, and subject matter experts to lead mine closure and environmental studies, projects, and initiatives.
Develop work scopes and manage project execution to ensure on time and on budget delivery of contractor and consultant services.
Communicate with Barrick personnel, technical experts, regulators, and community stakeholders.
Coordinate with subject matter experts on technical environmental topics.
Provide input into budgets consistent with the closure plans.
Perform all purchasing activities associated with the position.
Act as the Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) Responsible Person (or equivalent designated role, as applicable).

Experience
Minimum 10 years of direct experience in environmental permitting and compliance, with 5 or more years of experience in mining, extractive industries, or industrial operations.
Working knowledge of environmental legislation, industry standards (e.g., GISTM/ICMM), and permitting processes in British Columbia and Canada.
Comprehensive knowledge of the BC Mines Act, BC Environmental Management Act, Fisheries Act and BC Contaminated Site Regulations.
Direct experience with permit application processes and stakeholder engagement.
Knowledge and experience in mine closure, water management, tailings and waste management, and reclamation.
Strong organization, planning, and problem-solving skills with sound business acumen (budgeting, cost control, and risk management).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for diverse audiences.
Agile mindset with the ability to think creatively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Self-starter who is willing to work in a variety of capacities as needed to drive delivery of projects.
Ability and willingness to travel locally and internationally.
Valid BC drivers license required.
Education
Post-secondary qualifications in environmental science, civil/environmental engineering, chemistry, or related field, with a registered professional designation (PEng., PGeo, RPBio) considered a strong asset.
