Primary Purpose:




The Campus Planning Intern position is a four-month term position, starting May 5, 2025, to join our team. As a Campus Planning Intern, you will support various planning initiatives at the University of Saskatchewan including a specific site selection research project.



Your general location of work will be the University Services Building.


Required Nature of Work:




Reporting to the Campus Planning Specialist, this individual works within the Campus Planning and Real Estate Team. The Planning Intern will perform work related to campus development, research, report writing, policy and regulation review, and collaborate with various stakeholders.


Typical Duties or Accountabilities:




Perform professional work related to a variety of planning assignments, including the review and processing of applications related to USask development permits, Core Area Master Plan, other USask plans, and City of Saskatoon OCP and Zoning Bylaw. Undertake in-depth research and prepare written reports and presentations for senior leadership and external stakeholders on issues and topics related to campus planning and development; Prepare communications related to planning matters, including memorandums, briefing notes, reports, and other related materials; Perform field inspections to gather relevant data as needed.

Education:




This position requires a USask undergraduate planning student in the third or fourth year.

Familiar with provincial legislation relevant to planning, including the Planning and Development Act, 2007; Understanding of local government operations, Official Community Plans, zoning bylaws, and the procedures for bylaw amendments; Awareness of provincial, regional, and corporate programs, policies, and best practices concerning environmental, regional planning, and corporate strategic planning matters; Knowledge of sustainability principles, including nature-based solutions, equity, and climate change mitigation and adaptation; Ability to evaluate basic public datasets and perform essential data analysis tasks; Capability to link data and policy to provide a broader context; Understanding of research, evaluation, and data analysis techniques related to the issues being examined; Strong strategic and analytical thinking, problem-solving, project management, business planning, and risk management skills; Excellent interpersonal abilities for fostering collaborative working relationships; Strong written and verbal communication skills; Demonstrated ability to manage one's workload independently, ensuring accountability for deliverables while adhering to work plans and timelines; Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office 365.
