This is a summer student position. All applicants must provide confirmation of full-time student status in current academic year and/or acceptance into full time studies the following September 2026.



Basic Function:



Reporting to Full Time town staff and the Camps Area Coordinators - Inclusion, the Senior Leader - Inclusion assist in the operation, delivery, and on-site administration of the Town of Oakville camp programs. The Senior Leader - Inclusion will assist with the inclusion and supervision of campers with exceptionalities in a variety of camp programs, including programs for teenagers with disabilities.

Responsibilities:



Majority of responsibilities include front line service and program delivery, including daily monitoring of camp programs through staff, volunteer and participant interactions. Be responsible, on a daily basis, for staff contact, program quality, on site safety and facility condition. Support the objectives and philosophies of the camps as established by the Recreation and Culture department. Adhere to department prescribed policies and procedures. Act as a knowledgeable resource and on-site program representative for the department, Program Playleaders, Inclusion Support Workers, participants and the public at large. Support and promote the HIGH FIVE "Principles of Healthy Child Development" (PHCD). Follow and implement all Health and Safety regulations, and public health guidelines.

Specific Duties:



Attend all mandatory staff functions from May-September 2026 including but not limited to; training, scheduled shifts, staff meetings and site clean-ups and all allocated program times. Arrive at the program site well in advance of the start of the program day to ensure the site and staff are ready for the day's activities. In the absence of a Camp Coordinator or full-time staff take the lead role during any emergency or critical incident that may occur. Actively participate in daily planning and delivery of program to ensure quality control. Assist with planning and facilitating training for Playleaders / Inclusion Support Workers. Ensure the continuing safety of all participants, staff, and volunteers while at the program site. Resolve behaviour and conduct issues of both on-site staff and program participants in accordance with department approved procedures. Report and document all health and safety related incidents as per guidelines and report to full-time staff immediately. With the assistance of the full-time staff and Camps Area Coordinators - Inclusion, advise and document all accidents/incidents immediately. Observe and record staff performance in collaboration with full-time staff. Collaborate with full-time staff and Camps Area Coordinator - Inclusion in preparation of staff, and volunteer evaluations (where applicable). Develop and maintain a positive rapport with town facility staff and the community at large Be available each day to greet parents and participants and provide excellent customer service. Ensure staff have the necessary personal protective equipment (PPE), materials and supplies required for a safe and effective program. Monitor and then immediately notify the Camps Area Coordinator - Inclusion / full-time staff of any on-site problems and/or recommendations regarding staff performance, participants, parents or facilities which may affect the program. Assist and coordinate on-site staff with weekly program planning sessions with staff. Attend all mandatory staff functions: training, staff meetings, site clean-ups and all allocated program times. Provide regular updates to the Camps Area Coordinator - Inclusion / full-time staff. Ensure the proper cleanup of the program site on a daily basis. Any other duties that may be assigned by the Camps Area Coordinator - Inclusion / full-time staff.

Qualifications and Skills:



Current (within 3 years of the date of issue) Standard First Aid with CPR C Certificate from a WSIB approved agency valid until at least September 5, 2026. Behaviour Management Systems Training (BMS) must be obtained within 30 days of employment. Crisis Prevention intervention (CPI) is considered an asset HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) Certification (see below for more information). Produce a satisfactory Criminal Reference Check (CRC) including vulnerable sector screening, dated within 30 days of hire. All applicants must provide confirmation of full-time student status in current academic year and/or acceptance into full-time studies for September 2026. HIGH FIVE QUEST 2 considered and asset. Formal education or training in the studies of children and/or youth (children's studies, youth studies, psychology, teaching, recreation therapy, behaviour therapy and/or other related social sciences) is considered an asset. Demonstrated leadership and supervisory ability. Good communication and administrative skills. Strong problem solving and effective program planning skills. Camp specific experience. Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Previous work experience with children with exceptionalities, experience with one-on-one support (feeding, changing, toileting, etc.) and behaviour management is considered an asset. Swimming and comfort in the water is an asset.
