The Camp Program Manager is a key leadership role at the Youth & Family Wellness Camp, reporting directly to the Camp Director, and has direct oversight of frontline staff. The Manager position is responsible for leading the operational aspects of their programs/services through developing program plans/evaluation, closely monitoring relevant program/staff data, providing direct supervision to staff and keeping close relationships with key community stakeholders. The Manager will also work with their Director to plan and to operationalize budgets.
The Manager plays a vital role in ensuring the successful delivery of all equine, cultural, educational, and seasonal programming at the Camp. These programs are rooted in land-based, culturally grounded approaches that promote the holistic well-being of First Nations children, youth, and families. Serving as a liaison between internal departments, member First Nations, and external partners, the Camp Program Manager ensures all programming is responsive to community needs, reflects cultural integrity, and aligns with the Camp's vision of healing, connection, and wellness.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct Supervisor to Frontline Staff
Serve as the direct supervisor to frontline staff and team leads of the equine, cultural, educational and seasonal programming, overseeing performance, task delegation, scheduling, and staff development
Provide regular coaching, mentorship, and formal/informal performance evaluations, including corrective and disciplinary action as needed
Ensure staff receive training relevant to camp operations, including youth wellness, equine care, health and safety, trauma-informed care and culturally grounded practices
Lead regular team meetings to support communication, collaboration, and professional growth
Collaborate with the Director on staff recruitment and participate in interviews and onboarding
Program Oversight and Delivery
Lead the development and delivery of equine-assisted learning, cultural, educational, and therapeutic programs with support from frontline staff
Plan and manage seasonal and year-round programming, ensuring integration of Anishinaabe teachings, land-based learning, and wellness-focused content
Coordinate with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and Cultural Educators to ensure programming includes appropriate ceremony and traditional practices
Manage program logistics including registration, transportation, accommodations, meals, and equipment
Maintain and monitor an online calendar and registration system for program scheduling
Track participation and use feedback mechanisms to inform continuous improvement
Collaborate with the Communications team to promote programming using culturally relevant outreach and marketing materials
Program Management and Quality Improvement
Lead development and implementation of annual program plans in collaboration with the Director and program teams
Identify and communicate areas for growth, improvement, and innovation in programming
Develop and implement program orientation and training plans for new and existing staff
Collaborate with other Managers to support interdepartmental coordination, knowledge exchange, and internal referrals
Oversee accurate and consistent program data collection and reporting
Conduct regular program evaluations through staff meetings, participant feedback, and community consultations to assess effectiveness and identify areas for enhancement
Ensure all programming is trauma-informed, culturally grounded, and aligned with principles of reconciliation and self-determination
Financial Management
Work with Director on budget development and planning as required
Operationalize and track aspects of budget, ensuring cost-efficiency and compliance
Track expenses related to staffing, supplies, facilities, and programming, ensuring cost-efficiency and compliance
Manage procurement of equipment and materials and maintain a detailed inventory
Ensure financial protocols are followed consistently
Leadership and Organizational Engagement
Provide positive role modeling aligned with Code of Ethics and organizational values
Develop strong, respectful relationships with Managers and program staff
Demonstrate a balanced, healthy work ethic--promoting high performance and wellness
Actively participate in community events, leadership meetings, and gatherings
Support building an engaged, motivated, and culturally grounded workforce
Participate in organizational strategic planning and leadership discussions
Identify staff leadership potential, support professional development and succession planning
Liaising and Advocacy
Work closely with community leaders, youth and Elders to guide and support programming
Build partnerships with local schools, agencies, charities, and sport/recreation networks
Actively engage at local and regional tables/committees when relevant to bring forward opportunities

QUALIFICATIONS
Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills
Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with staff, stakeholders, and community partners
Strong leadership and management skills; able to inspire, coach, and motivate staff
Excellent problem-solving, time management, and strategic planning abilities
Strong understanding of program development, evaluation, and budgeting
Trustworthy and consistent, with high personal and professional integrity
Computer proficient and detail-oriented
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
University degree or college diploma from a recognized institution (preferably in Recreation, Outdoor Education, Indigenous Studies, or a related field)
Experience in a leadership/management role in a community-based, health, education, or camp setting
Experience working with First Nations organizations, with knowledge of First Nations cultural and wellness practices
Ability to speak Anishinaabemowin is an asset
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle
Willingness to travel and work occasional evenings or weekends
Clear Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Check
