We are Xwemalhkwu, or Homalco, and we are known as "the people of the fast-running waters". Our connection to our lands and waters forms part of our identity and informs our responsibility to our lands, waters, and people. We have lived in concert with our natural surroundings for millennia in Bute Inlet, the Discovery Islands and Campbell River.
Homalco First Nation's Homathko Camp is located at the head of Bute Inlet and Orford Camp is centrally located in Orford Bay, serving as the hub for the Homalco Taggares Hatchery, wildlife and cultural tourism, and fisheries enhancement. The camp includes bunkhouses, a cookhouse, and essential infrastructure to support both seasonal tourism and ongoing hatchery activities. Homalco is dedicated to upholding high standards of safety, stewardship, and cultural respect, supporting sustainable community development and salmon enhancement initiatives.
