SUMMER CAMP Counsellor The Ottawa Tennis & Lawn Bowling Club, in the heart of Old Ottawa South, is located between Brewer Park and the Rideau River (just across from Carleton University). The OTLBC is the largest tennis club in Ottawa (18 tennis courts, 12 beach volleyball courts and an outdoor swimming pool) and provides a complete summer experience that includes tennis, swimming, volleyball, dining and relaxation. Our popular camps host close to 700 campers over the course of 10 weeks. OTLBC has the reputation of being a great place to work. Requirements \xc2\xb7 1-2 years of experience working with children (must be comfortable and enjoy leading by example) \xc2\xb7 Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and campers \xc2\xb7 Able to work under pressure and adapt to changing environments and diverse weather conditions \xc2\xb7 Highly organized with the ability to multitask \xc2\xb7 Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills \xc2\xb7 Excellent communication skills; bilingual (French & English) preferred \xc2\xb7 Professional, courteous demeanor, strong work ethic and commitment to excellence \xc2\xb7 Good teamwork ethic, with an ability to work independently \xc2\xb7 Sports experience (tennis, volleyball, soccer and swimming are considered an asset) \xc2\xb7 Experience in facilitating recreational and fun activities for children Asset Qualifications \xc2\xb7 Completion or progress towards a University Degree and/or College Diploma in disciplines surrounding Children and Youth, Recreation, Social Work, Sport and/or Community Programming, Community Development and Teaching \xc2\xb7 Lifeguard certification \xc2\xb7 Tennis Canada Instructor Course Level 1 \xc2\xb7 First Aid Responsibilities \xc2\xb7 Supervise daily camp activities to ensure a safe, fun and enriching experience for all participants in accordance with club values, code of conduct and safety policies \xc2\xb7 Responsible for following policies and schedules set out by Management and Camp Director (e.g. signing in and out procedures, schedule of activities, etc.) \xc2\xb7 Engage, supervise and instruct camper groups as assigned and actively participate in program \xc2\xb7 Help create new games and activities, especially for unplanned down time, leading campers to keep them on task and on schedule \xc2\xb7 Set up and cleaning of dining room area for lunch \xc2\xb7 Must be in the swimming pool with campers and must participate in pool activities \xc2\xb7 Work Before Care and After Care shifts when scheduled: monitor sign-in and sign-out sheets at dropoff and pickup and greet parents \xc2\xb7 Communicate and report in a timely manner any incidents, camper injuries, illnesses and discipline concerns to club management \xc2\xb7 Maintain camp equipment and cleanness of all areas used by campers and staff, including restaurant, changerooms, bathrooms and dropoff/pickup area \xc2\xb7 Assist in keeping accurate inventory of equipment throughout the summer and report replacement/ordering needs to Camp Director or Management \xc2\xb7 Other duties as assigned by the Camp Director or Management Work Schedule Monday to Friday 9:00AM-3:30PM Some Before Care and After Care shifts, 8:00\xe2\x80\x939:00AM and/or 3:30\xe2\x80\x935:00PM Mandatory attendance at training sessions (June) Job Types: Full-time, Seasonal
Contract length: 2 months Salary: From $15.50 per hour Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
