Job Summary
Working for the City means you are part of something big, something special! We are looking for dedicated, experienced staff that will support a positive camp experience for children living with disabilities and displaying challenging behaviours by coaching and assisting staff working in the camp environment.
Our Winter Camp Recreation Support Coordinators provide assistance and direction to various levels of camp and recreation staff with regards to behaviour management and support of children with disclosed and undisclosed disabilities in camp programming.
Through working with the City of Mississauga's Recreation Support Team you will make a positive difference for a child and their family by assisting in creating a positive recreation day camp experience making life long lasting memories.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Supervise, coach and develop part-time staff (e.g. provide: on-site training, ongoing support, direction and assistance to Recreation Support Facilitators).
• Interview families to discuss specific needs/accommodations required in programs.
• Create Individualized Recreation Plans/Safety Plans designed for staff.
• Provide program support to facility teams and respond to staff requests (e.g. implement and monitor accommodations and modifications in program to allow participation of children with a disability).
• Occasionally intervene and support in situations of extreme behaviours.
• Assist in the preparation and implementation of training sessions for staff.
• Travel to various community centres/off site locations to support staff and participants.
• Use informed decision making and prioritize issues, site visits, problem solve and communicate as required.
• With Supervisor support, liaise with parents and facility teams when necessary.
• Maintain open, honest and respectful communication with parents/caregivers, camp staff and supervisor regarding participants and their experience.
• Complete all administrative duties in a timely manner (e.g. completion and delivery of staff evaluations, completion of required forms, recreation plans, etc.)
• Incorporate and model the HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development.
• Complete Quest 2 evaluations where appropriate.
• Provide consistent and structured feedback to supervisor for quality improvement purposes.
• Provide assistance in the pool environment and support in water as needed.
• Understand, communicate and incorporate policies and procedures of City of Mississauga.
• Employees may be assigned to any location within Mississauga or re-deployed to various locations/shifts or assigned to a variety of job responsibilities on a day-to-day basis.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years experience working with children (4-14 years of age) living with disabilities and/or challenging behaviours.
• Experience coaching, supervising and evaluating staff.
• Experience developing and implementing training sessions.
• Secondary School Diploma
• Graduate or currently enrolled in post-secondary courses/degree/diploma in Education, Social Work, Child and Youth Work, Recreation and Leisure, Disability Studies, and/or related discipline.
• CMS, NCVI and/or training specific to autism spectrum disorder or similar training is an asset.
• The successful candidate must possess a valid HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development and Quest 2 certification by your start date (December 1, 2025).
• The successful candidate must possess a valid Emergency First Aid and CPR B or Standard First Aid and CPR C (Lifesaving Society, Canadian Red Cross Society, St. John's Ambulance or the Canadian Ski Patrol) certification (must be recognized by WSIB) by your start date (December 1, 2025). The award must be current during the employment period.
• A Level 3 - Vulnerable Sector Check will be required of the successful candidate, as a condition of employment, at their own expense, to verify the absence of a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted.

Light lifting required. * In the water supervision with participants if necessary. Completion of a swimming test would be required.

• Ability to travel with your own method of transportation between City of Mississauga locations between the hours of 6:00am - 7:00pm on weekdays is required.
• Willingness to learn and practice blocking techniques to address physical aggression and strategies to address verbal aggression.

Hourly Rate/Salary: 20.98 - 25.60
