DescriptionThis position provides support to the Head Cook and Hospitality Manager in the operation of the Kitchen, Dining Hall, Cooks and Kitchen Support Staff.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Administration

  • Work with the Head Cook and/or Hospitality Manager to organize weekly shifts.
  • Assist the Head Cook and/or Hospitality Manager in receiving, verifying, and storing food orders.
  • Assist the Head Cook and/or Hospitality Manager in making an inventory of supplies and food at the end of the summer season. Prepare all food and supplies for storage as needed.
General Duties\xc2\xb7 Work under the direction of the Head Cook and Hospitality manager to prepare meals for large groups of diners according to the menus provided. Must be comfortable using, or willing to learn how to operate, an array of commercial kitchen equipment, such as griddles, deep fryers, ovens and combination ovens, stovetop, steamtables, etc.\xc2\xb7 Prepare separate and appropriate meals for those with dietary needs/allergies.
  • Assist in the constant cleanliness and sanitation of freezers, walk-in fridges, stove and food preparation surfaces, including a deep clean at the end of the summer season.
  • Supervise and provide direction to the Kitchen Support Staff and/or Asisstant Cook daily.
  • Along with the Head Cook and/or Hospitality Manager, oversee and direct weekly clean-up of the kitchen/dining hall at the end of each week.

  • This position reports directly to the Head Cook and/or Hospitality Manager.
  • This position supervises kitchen support staff and/or the assistant cook.
FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:\xc2\xb7 Assist with supervision of receiving and stocking food and kitchen supply orders.\xc2\xb7 Use of various kitchen tools and appliances (ex: knives, stove/oven, deep fryer, dishwasher, electric mixers, etc.).\xc2\xb7 Use of various cleaning chemicals and tools (ex: broom, mop, vacuum, etc.).WORKING CONDITIONS:\xc2\xb7 The individual is able to live onsite with a meals and accommodations taxable benefit if needed.\xc2\xb7 This position requires long hours standing on hard surfaces.\xc2\xb7 This position requires individuals to work in close proximity to others in a fast-paced and sometimes crowded environment. The work can be physically taxing and requires good mobility.\xc2\xb7 This position pays an hourly salary at 40 hours/week.The above responsibilities must be performed in keeping with The Salvation Army\'s Mission, Vision and Values, in a professional manner, upholding our code of conduct.QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:\xc2\xb7 Food Safe Certification preferred\xc2\xb7 Culinary education and training preferred\xc2\xb7 Standard First Aid + CPR & AED required\xc2\xb7 Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector required (no more than 3 years old)\xc2\xb7 Clearance through internal Salvation Army child & youth abuse prevention protocolExperience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:\xc2\xb7 Minimum 1 year experience working in a busy kitchen/food preparation & service environment.\xc2\xb7 Experience overseeing menu planning and food supply orders.\xc2\xb7 Minimum 1 year leading and supervising a kitchen and its personnel is preferred.\xc2\xb7 Respect and understanding of The Salvation Army - its mission, culture, and values.Skills and Capabilities:\xc2\xb7 Flexible and have a good disposition.\xc2\xb7 Able to maintain a responsible level of maturity and leadership.\xc2\xb7 Willingness to train and coach youth in food preparation, safe practices, health & safety, cleanliness/sanitization and the importance of good service to diners.\xc2\xb7 Demonstrate support for the overall mission and goals of PLC summer camping through food service.PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

DAYS and HOURS of work:The chosen applicant will be required to work either a morning (6:00am-2:00pm) or afternoon (11:00am-7:00pm) shift, Monday-Friday. We ask for flexibility with these hours, as they may need to be adjusted depending on the needs of each camping group. There may also be a requirement to work some weekends or overtime hours, in addition to the regular hours.
