As a Communication Strategist with the Calgary Police Service (CPS) you will provide strategic communication service and advice to CPS members regarding plans, policy and system development, issue prevention and management, crisis communication and the development, implementation and evaluation of communication strategies. Primary duties include:

Support the Executive Director in developing and implementing a communications-focused Intergovernmental Relations Strategy. Monitor and analyze political communications across all three orders of government to inform CPS's strategic positioning. Support the development and delivery of an advocacy communications plan in collaboration with the Calgary Police Commission. Provide strategic communications advice to Senior and Executive Leadership on matters related to intergovernmental relations.


Qualifications

A degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Business or related field. A minimum of 5 years related experience that includes progressively senior experience in strategic communications and issues/crisis management, including either media relations or journalism experience. Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) is required. A designation in APR (Accredited Public Relations), ABC (Accredited Business Communicator) or CAAP (Communications and Advertising Accredited Professional) would be considered an asset. Previous experience working in a law enforcement environment is also an asset. Success in this position requires efficiency and thoroughness, impact and influence, planning and prioritizing/visionary and service orientation. An effective communicator with a focus on results and the ability to build strong relationships.

Pre-employment Requirements

An enhanced security clearance will be conducted. Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. Education obtained from out of country must have or be able to obtain, an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) for confirmation of equivalent credentials.

Compensation: Pay Grade 12 $47.01 - 62.84 per hour
Days of Work: This position works a four-day
compressed work week.
