Some off-shift time required for scheduling, ordering, and administrative duties (covered by stipend)
Key Responsibilities
Daily Operations
Work a minimum of
32 hours per week on the cafe floor
, serving customers and supporting daily operations
Open and close the cafe as required
Ensure consistent coffee quality, food prep standards, and cleanliness
Maintain health & safety and sanitation standards
Team Leadership
Hire, train, and lead baristas
Create staff schedules, manage time-off requests, and ensure shift coverage
Provide coaching, feedback, and corrective action when necessary
Foster a positive and accountable team culture
Inventory & Ordering
Order all cafe inventory including coffee beans (house and retail), milk & dairy alternatives, syrups, food ingredients, energy drinks, paper goods, and supplies
Monitor inventory levels, minimize waste, and manage costs
Equipment & Maintenance
Oversee daily and preventative maintenance of cafe equipment (espresso machines, grinders, brewers, dishwashers, refrigerators, etc.)
Identify equipment issues early and
contact ownership for major malfunctions
Coordinate service calls and maintenance appointments as needed
Scheduling, Admin & Communication
Manage weekly staff schedules
Respond to customer emails, messages, and online reviews professionally
Post important cafe updates (hours, closures, seasonal drinks) via in-store signage and social media
Support seasonal menu launches and operational changes
Qualifications
A minimum of 2 years' Previous cafe or restaurant management experience (specialty coffee experience preferred)
Comfortable leading from the bar in a fast-paced environment
Strong organizational and communication skills
Ability to multitask and problem-solve independently
