Sweet Caroline's Ice Cream and Cafe is looking to hire a skilled Baker to join our talented team. We're a popular trendy spot in the heart of Kitchener that offers great coffee, sandwiches, ice cream, fresh baked pastries, and cakes daily.

If you are a professionally experienced baker who has baked and decorated large volumes of baked goods, we're looking for you!

(home baking is not considered professional baking).

Our bakers also help with Front of House, and this role will be required to interact with customers approximately 20%-40% of shifts.

Qualifications:

1 + years in a bread or pastry preparation position Basic math and measuring skills. High school diploma or equivalent; degree from a post-secondary culinary arts training program preferred. Ability to read and speak English proficiently. Strong ability to multi-task. Strong customer service and communication skills. Follow directions given by management. Willingness and ability to work clean and organized as well as a willingness to complete cleaning tasks as assigned. Flexibility of shift to meet the business needs.

Responsibilities for Baker

Baking fresh scones, muffin, bread, pastries, cakes as well as custom creations. Continuous standing/walking for all tasks. Maintaining a clean work environment, positive attitude, communicating well with other staff members and customers when in the shops. Ensure consistent quality and presentation of all baked items. Frequent turning and reaching. Occasional pushing, pulling and some forward bending. Ability to lift at least 2.5 kg to a height of 1.7 metres. Constant use of both hands, with frequent wrist rotation and flexing, occasional forceful gripping. Manual dexterity able to operate cutting tools and kitchen utensils. Able to follow recipes accurately and independently. Able to measure, weigh and prepare ingredients. Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently. Manage inventory and assist with ordering baking supplies Start early to ensure fresh offerings are ready for opening Food prep- sandwiches, grab and go, wraps, soups, flatbread pizza. Follow health, safety and sanitation guidelines for all products. Communicate any issues or concerns in a timely manner with the Manager. A positive attitude, a smile, a passion for serving the customer and the ability to multitask. Observe relevant health and safety standards.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand/walk for the duration of a regular work shift. Intermittent bending, kneeling and squatting. Occasional carrying and lifting, up to 50lb.

Summary of Experience

We require min 1 year of professional baking experience . Food Handlers certification required . Knife skills or previous experience in a kitchen is preferred. Familiarity with all aspects of baking and the ability to be independent at tasks. Excellent time management skills to effectively handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. A commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and food safety practices.
