ROLE



Surerus Murphy Joint Venture is recruiting for a competent, enthusiastic, and dynamic CAD Technician to join our engineering team supporting ongoing energy infrastructure construction projects across Canada & USA. This role reports to both the Digital Design Lead, as well as project-based engineering & construction teams. A CAD Technician works with project teams to prepare engineering design and construction drawings, process survey information, create & develop 3D models, and output construction models for machine control files.

Process piping, pipeline, or similar experience is preferred, but additional training will be provided for suitable candidates new to the energy infrastructure industry. This role provides opportunities to work on high-profile, large-scale energy projects of national importance.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


Use the latest Autodesk CAD software to prepare project design & construction 3D models and drawings. Responsible to produce project execution drawings including access route plans & road upgrade drawings, site & equipment layouts, trenchless pipeline crossings, open cut pipeline crossings, environmental mitigation drawings, lift plan drawings, etc. Utilize UAV LIDAR & photogrammetry data, pointcloud data sets and orthographic imagery for incorporation into, and development of, 3D construction models. Create large earthworks & grading models for export into site equipment for machine control & calculation of material volumes. Process 3D Laser Scanning data to output structured pointcloud information with associated QA/QC checks and survey reports Utilize pointcloud feature extraction software to create 3D piping models of existing site conditions Work closely with project engineers, surveyors and site teams to provide accurate model data supporting successful project delivery Work with geo-referenced and local grid coordinate systems to import, extract and export co-ordinate lists and 3D models for civil, structural and process piping components and equipment. Produce project models & drawings in accordance with the company CAD Standard, ensuring that drawings are prepared, stored, issued, and archived in accordance with current company procedures. Project data management of all CAD files. Solve technical challenges, maintain and improve knowledge of drafting techniques, task workflows, standards, and engineering procedures. Display excellent time management skills to complete time sensitive deliverables. Display strong analytical and problem-solving skills to understand what tasks are required.



Note: In addition to these duties personnel are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required in order to support the objectives of the company.



POSITION REQUIREMENTS



Qualifications
Completion of high school diploma is required. Graduate from an accredited college program such as Diploma in Engineering Design and Drafting Technology (SAIT/NAIT) or equivalent qualifications / previous work experience. Professional registration with ASET/ASTTBC or similar is an asset.


Experience
3 years minimum previous experience in a similar role. Previous experience using Autodesk Civil 3D for earthwork design and site grading. Previous experience using Autodesk Navisworks Manage/Simulate. Experience using Leica Cyclone Register 360+ is an asset.



Skills and Knowledge
Advanced Civil 3D skills with proficiency in corridor modelling is an asset. Knowledge of CADWorx Plant Professional or similar process piping software. Knowledge of planning and execution of site 3D laser scanning workflows is an asset. Genuine interest in drafting and digital engineering & construction technology practices, processes and workflows. Strong and professional verbal and written communication.



WORKING CONDITIONS



This is a permanent position based at our Spruce Grove (Edmonton) or Calgary office with a 5-day work week, 8-hour days.



There will be a requirement to be site based when placed to work on a construction project. Project sites are usually based in areas throughout Alberta and British Columbia. Project schedules will typically follow 6 days on 1 day off shift, working 12 hours per day with a site based daily pay uplift.



REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS



The CAD Technician reports to the Digital Design Lead along with functional reporting to project-based engineering teams.
