PRIMARY EMPLOYMENT OBJECTIVES
The CAD Designer I is a key participant in the creation of a wide range of solutions; from component level to system level solutions. The CAD Designer I will develop design concepts thru the creation of detailed 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, mock-ups and prototypes. The CAD Designer I will be a key member of the design and engineering team and will participate in the new product development and product improvement efforts of the company. The CAD Designer I will work alongside with the other departments to establish the concept, performance and production criteria and to ensure manufacturability, durability and performance of the products.

The CAD Designer I must have exceptional creative problem solving skills and will need to be a customer oriented self-starter who can work in a dynamic and evolving team environment. This position also requires proficiency in Solidworks and applicable knowledge of technology, materials and manufacturing methods for plastics, metals and composites.

SPECIFIC ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

People:

  • Collaborate and provide support to Designers, Engineers and Project Managers to ensure product requirements & standards are met.
  • Participate and contribute in brainstorming sessions.
  • Liaise with subject matter experts in order to assure product manufacturability, tolerances & quality needs are met.
  • Interact with other departments and suppliers as required during the product development process.
Process:
  • Use Solidworks to generate concepts and create detailed 3D Models, Assemblies & 2D Drawings that meet the established requirements & Standards.
  • Incorporate improvements and feedback into 3D model designs and revisions.
  • Demonstrate concepts through sketches, mock-ups and prototypes.
  • Translate 2D concepts & proposed solutions into 3D models.
  • Create 3D realistic images (renderings) and animations.
  • Create and maintain the product Bill of Materials (BOM) in PLM through product development.
  • Maintain CAD files and ensure proper organization.
  • Additional tasks as assigned
Performance:
  • Provide input on product development & features in response to user needs and technical requirements.
  • Develop CAD models taking account of technical constraints and limitations while ensuring the design intent is maintained.
  • Include the product design language, functionality and usability in every proposed solution.
  • Ability to be an integral member of a cross functional team and demonstrate strong collaboration skills
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • 2 year community college program (DEC in Quebec) in Industrial Design or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5-7 years of experience in product design.
  • Exceptional creative problem solving and design skills, particularly in 3D modeling.
  • Proficiency in the use software tools such as SolidWorks, Adobe CC and Keyshot.
  • Strong Experience in Advanced Surface modeling, Class-A surfacing & Techniques.
  • Capability to manage and control configuration of technical data using Solidworks PDM is a plus
  • Must have good knowledge of design practices, manufacturing processes and materials, specifically as it relates to product development in the plastic injection industry.
  • Creative and ability to work autonomous and part of a team.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and other drafting standards is an asset.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Strong English language, verbal communication and writing skills. Bilingualism is a plus.
  • Experience with production environment is a plus.
  • Knowledge of and experience of working with Military and Personal Protective Equipment Standards, a plus
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Office base and manufacturing environment.
  • Some travel may be required between Galvion facilities.
