Blackbird Security Inc. is currently seeking to hire a dedicated and motivated individual to join our team as a Level 1 Bylaw Enforcement Officer in Peachland, BC. As a Bylaw Enforcement Officer, you will play a crucial role in maintaining community safety, enforcing municipal bylaws, and ensuring compliance with local regulations. Responsibilities:

  • Patrolling and Monitoring: Maintain a visible presence in the community by regularly patrolling District parks, public areas, and facilities on foot, motor vehicle, or bicycle, ensuring security and enforcing bylaws effectively.
  • Complaint Investigation and Resolution: Record, investigate, address, and collaboratively resolve complaints related to potential bylaw infractions, ensuring timely and satisfactory resolutions.
  • Bylaw Enforcement Actions: Prepare and issue warning letters, municipal tickets, or other necessary notices to enforce the District\'s bylaws, paying close attention to detail in all documentation.
  • Vehicle Towing: Arrange for the towing of illegally parked vehicles when immediate action is warranted due to safety concerns or for repeated infractions, following appropriate protocols.
  • Evidence Gathering and Documentation: Assemble and secure evidence and prepare required documentation for bylaw adjudication processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legal requirements.
  • Compliance and Privacy: Adhere to the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, ensuring the appropriate handling and protection of sensitive information.
  • Adjudication Hearings: Attend Southern Interior Bylaw Dispute Adjudication Hearings as required, representing the District and presenting relevant information.
  • Health and Safety: Take necessary precautions to protect personal and others\' health and safety by following health and safety protocols applicable to the role.
  • Coordination: Coordinate all activities and requests with the designated District representative specified in the Agreement, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
  • Special Assignments: Conduct weekly midnight/early morning patrols of Beach Ave to address illegal camping and overnight parking issues. Perform evening checks of District Facilities to ensure proper building security. Monitor outdoor vendors as required, addressing concerns that may arise. Monitor the day use wharf and take enforcement action when necessary. Provide additional support to other departments as needed.
  • Miscellaneous Duties: Perform other duties as assigned to contribute to the effective operation of bylaw enforcement services.

  • Successful completion of Bylaw Enforcement and Investigative Skills Certificate
  • Previous experience in bylaw enforcement, law enforcement, or a related field is preferred.
  • Knowledge of municipal bylaws, regulations, and relevant legislation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Valid driver\'s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required.
  • Valid criminal record check with vulnerable persons check
  • Oath of office
  • Availability on an On-Call Basis is requried.
