Hardwood and Industrial Product Buyer





Our client is seeking a motivated Buyer to manage the sourcing and procurement of hardwood and panel materials used in industrial and infrastructure applications. This role plays a key part in maintaining reliable supply channels, negotiating competitive terms, and supporting product and inventory strategies across North American operations.



The successful candidate will combine strong analytical skills with an understanding of commodity markets and supplier dynamics. This position involves travel to mills, vendor facilities, and industry events across Canada and the United States.


Responsibilities




Identify, evaluate, and purchase hardwood and panel products in coordination with product and purchasing teams. Build and maintain supplier relationships to ensure stable supply and favorable pricing. Monitor market activity, industry pricing, and production trends to anticipate changes. Negotiate terms, deliveries, and logistics within established parameters. Track product levels and coordinate replenishment to meet sales and production needs. Maintain accurate data for forecasting, shipment tracking, and order documentation. Collaborate with internal teams to ensure efficient flow of materials. Work closely with sales and operations to communicate product availability and market updates. Support issue resolution involving vendors, transportation, or inventory discrepancies. Visit mills and supplier sites to strengthen relationships and assess production capabilities. Represent the company at industry shows and regional trade events.

Skills & Qualifications




Post-secondary education in Business, Supply Chain, or a related discipline. 1-3 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain management. Experience with lumber, panels, or other industrial commodities is an asset. Comfortable using ERP or inventory systems (training provided). Valid driver's license and passport required for travel. Excellent negotiation and communication skills. Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail. Analytical mindset with a solid understanding of commodity pricing and trends. Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. * Flexible, resourceful, and comfortable in a fast-paced environment.
