The Buyer plays a pivotal role in procurement of products, materials, and components that enable seamless manufacturing and operational performance. This position is accountable for delivering cost optimization, quality assurance, reliable supply, and supplier excellence, while ensuring alignment with broader corporate and supply chain strategies. The incumbent proactively manages supplier partnerships, drives sourcing initiatives that enhance competitiveness, and contributes to the long-term sustainability of the company's supply base. Through strategic sourcing execution and continuous improvement, the Buyer ensures operational continuity and supports the organization's growth and efficiency objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and execute purchasing strategies aligned with company objectives for cost control, quality, delivery, and supplier performance.
Conduct market analysis and supplier benchmarking to identify potential new suppliers, innovations, and cost-saving opportunities.
Lead or support tendering processes: prepare specifications, request quotations, evaluate bids, and negotiate contracts and terms with suppliers.
Contribute to supplier segmentation and risk management, ensuring sustainable and resilient sourcing practices.
Collaborate with management to define purchasing plans aligned with production forecasts and long-term capacity requirements.
Establish and maintain productive, ethical, and professional relationships with suppliers and service providers.
Monitor supplier performance against contractual KPIs for cost, quality, and delivery; implement corrective actions when necessary.
Conduct or participate in supplier audits, qualification, and approval processes in compliance with company standards.
Promote continuous improvement and innovation through supplier collaboration and joint development initiatives.
Ensure timely availability of materials and components to support production schedules and project timelines.
Manage purchase orders, delivery follow-ups, and coordination with logistics and production teams.
Resolve procurement-related issues such as delivery delays, quality non-conformities, or pricing discrepancies.
Optimize purchasing volumes and lot sizes to minimize total acquisition costs while maintaining operational efficiency.
Maintain up-to-date purchasing data, contracts, and supplier information within ERP and procurement databases.
Use analytical tools (Excel, Power BI, ERP reports) to track purchasing performance, spend analysis, and supplier metrics.
Ensure compliance with company policies, internal controls, and audit requirements.
Collaborate with engineering, quality, logistics, and finance teams to align purchasing activities with business needs.
Provide procurement expertise and support to new product development, cost reduction, or process improvement projects.
Participate in cross-functional meetings to anticipate needs and proactively resolve supply issues
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline
In-depth knowledge of supplier markets, procurement processes, and manufacturing supply chains
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate complex offers and assess total cost of ownership
Proven negotiation and contract management skills (pricing, terms, capacity, lead time, and service levels)
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with ERP systems (e.g., Syspro, SAP, or similar). Power BI knowledge is an asset.
Strong communication, relationship management, and influencing skills across functions and with suppliers
Sound business judgment, critical thinking, and decision-making capabilities
Demonstrated ethics, integrity, and professionalism in all supplier interactions.
Results-driven, detail-oriented, and committed to continuous improvement and operational excellence
5+ years of relevant experience in purchasing or procurement within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
Experience in sourcing mechanical, electrical, or industrial components preferred
Fluency in English (spoken and written); additional language proficiency is an asset.
Certifications:
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt
Certified Supply Chain Management Professional (CSCMP)
