As the Butcher Shop Manager, you will oversee all aspects of meat operations, including production, quality control, inventory management, and team supervision. You'll work closely with suppliers and store management to ensure the department operates efficiently, safely, and profitably.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise and lead a team of butchers and meat clerks.
Manage meat cutting, packaging, labeling, and merchandising to maintain high presentation standards.
Monitor inventory, place supplier orders, and minimize waste through efficient planning.
Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety regulations (CFIA and Alberta Health standards).
Train staff on proper cutting techniques, equipment use, and customer service.
Track department sales and margins; develop strategies to improve profitability.
Coordinate with store management for promotions and seasonal product displays.
Maintain all meat processing equipment in clean and safe working condition.
Qualifications
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in meat cutting or butcher shop management (retail or wholesale).
Strong leadership, communication, and organization skills.
In-depth knowledge of meat grades, cuts, preparation methods, and food safety regulations.
Ability to manage schedules, control costs, and meet production targets.
Physically fit and able to work in cold environments.
Multilingual ability (English, Cantonese, Mandarin, or Vietnamese) is an asset but not required.
