The Role
We are looking for a dedicated and dynamic individual to join our team as a Business Partner, People & Culture. Reporting to the Director, People & Culture, this position plays a key role in shaping the organization's culture, employee experience, and overall people strategy. As a trusted internal advisor, this role provides guidance and expertise to leaders and employees on a wide range of human resources matters. As an experienced generalist, the incumbent plays a critical role in delivering high-quality People & Culture services, contributing to a positive employee experience, and enhancing the effectiveness of people practices across the company.
This is an on-site position located at 1340 Brant Street, Burlington. Burlington Hydro offers eligible employees the flexibility to work remotely one (1) day per week as part of our Hybrid Work from Home Program.
What You Will Do
Manage the day-to-day delivery of People & Culture programs, including performance management, talent development, engagement initiatives, and employee experience programs, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and legislative requirements
Manage full-cycle recruitment and support hiring managers in assessing talent needs
Provide leadership support in labour and employee relations matters, including research, documentation, interpretation of policies and collective agreements, and preparation of recommendations
Conduct and support workplace investigations, documentation, and resolution processes, ensuring fairness, consistency, and adherence to legislative and organizational requirements
Support collective bargaining preparation and related labour relations initiatives
Develop, update, and interpret HR policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure compliance with legislation, corporate policies, and collective agreements
Monitor and ensure adherence to employment legislation and regulatory requirements, including ESA, OHRC, WSIB, Occupational Health & Safety, and company policies
Prepare, analyze, and interpret data, metrics, and dashboards to identify trends and support strategic decision-making
Drive organizational culture initiatives, employee engagement and change management strategies that promote inclusion, collaboration, and innovation
Develop people communication, ensuring consistency, clarity and alignment with People & Culture initiatives
Manage the administration of employee leaves, including WSIB, disability, accommodations, and return-to-work processes, ensuring compliance with legislation, timely case coordination, and effective communication with employees and leaders
Support organizational design activities, including job analysis
Work in compliance with all safe work practices, technical specifications, standards, and rules/regulations as set out by the Company, the MOL, IHSA, ESA, CSA, and other applicable authorities
All other duties as assigned
What We Are Looking For
Post-secondary degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Bachelor of Commerce or a related field
Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) designation
Minimum five (5) years of progressive experience in Human Resources, with at least three (3) years of labour relations experience in a unionized environment
Solid HR generalist background with strong critical thinking and demonstrated experience in people analytics and reporting, including the ability to interpret and communicate insights from data
Experience with HRIS systems (Ceridian Dayforce considered an asset) and a strong level of technical proficiency
What You'll Need to Be Successful
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization
Proficient in MS Office applications and HRIS systems
Sound analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
Strong knowledge of employment legislation, human rights, and health and safety requirements
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines with attention to detail
Professionalism, discretion, tact, and confidentiality in handling sensitive information
