C-FER works with the global energy industry to advance safety, environmental performance and efficiency with full-scale testing and specialized engineering consulting services. InnoTech Alberta offers a range of science, engineering and technological research talent and testing capabilities, and the facilities that can help accelerate technology development serving both the private and public sector.

Alberta Innovates is seeking a Business Partner, Environmental Innovation to provide our Clean Resources team with support for programs and projects within the agriculture, forestry, oil and gas, water, environmental management and conservation sectors. The successful incumbent will provide program planning and implementation, project management and technical support to ensure successful implementation of our programs and services.

Responsibilites include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Manage and support the development, evaluation and implementation of initiatives and projects.
  • Research and analyze intelligence and best practices in order to identify trends and emerging issues to advise management and stakeholders of results.
  • Support environmental scanning efforts to ensure staff are aware of and able to respond to research and innovation being done within and outside of Alberta.
  • Provide information on performance measures and portfolio analysis for strategic planning.
  • Participate in and contribute to the development of annual reports, strategic and business plans.
  • Work with funded applicants to ensure time lines and agreement requirements are met.
  • Support the evaluation of proposals, and review interim reports and final reports, as required.
  • Develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders to understand priorities, collaborate on initiatives and facilitate the management of project deliverables.
  • Utilize external networks and relationships with government representatives and business partners to be aware of industry best practices, emerging trends and shifts in regulatory requirements.
  • Raise the profile of Alberta research community through participation, planning, or hosting of workshops and conferences supporting the Alberta innovation community.
  • Contribute to speaking notes and presentations, present papers at conferences, workshops and symposia.
Qualifications and skills we are looking for:
  • Undergraduate Degree in Forestry, Agricultural Sciences, Engineering, Commerce or Management related field.
  • Master\'s Degree is preferred.
  • 5 - 7 years research and project management experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of agriculture, forestry, the environment and natural resources industries.
  • Operational experience and experience overseeing research.
  • Experience working with technical and management professionals from government, industry, environmental agencies and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of scientific principles.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, listening and interpersonal skills to convey concepts and information and persuade others.
  • Able to develop and maintain strong stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail that reflects ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks, competing agendas and heavy client demands.
  • Strategic thinker who is result-oriented.
  • Able to identify innovative solutions to complex issues.
  • Proven critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Decision making, planning and priority management skills.
