Originating in 1967, the Department of Linguistics has become an integral part of an academic community that includes numerous linguistic colleagues throughout the University and in neighbouring universities. The core areas of research and teaching in the department include theoretical linguistics, language variation, language documentation and revitalization and psycholinguistics. As part of the University of Toronto, one of the world\xe2\x80\x99s leading teaching and research universities, the members of the department have access to excellent resources on campus, including a comprehensive library.
Your opportunity:
Reporting to and in close consultation with the Chair, the Business Officer is responsible for overseeing business and financial administration activities in the Department of Linguistics. The incumbent plays a critical role in financial matters, such as budgeting, forecasting, and monitoring an administrative budget from operating funds, grant funding, trust accounts , and other sources of revenue. Other financial activities include financial modelling and reporting, purchase orders and requisitions, performing monthly reconciliations on departmental and research accounts, and processing and reconciling payroll .
The Business Officer also ensures efficient administrative operations of the department and handles matters related to space, renovations, equipment, facilities, and special events and conferences . The incumbent develops and implements processes and procedures that support administrative workflows and objectives and provides day-to-day supervision of administrative staff.
