Position Summary
The Business Intelligence Analyst is responsible for transforming data into actionable insights to support business decision-making. This role involves designing, developing, and maintaining BI solutions, including dashboards, reports, and data visualizations. The BI Analyst collaborates with stakeholders to gather requirements, analyze data trends, and provide recommendations to drive operational efficiency and strategic initiatives. Key skills include proficiency in BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau), SQL, data modeling, and strong analytical and communication skills. Experience with data warehousing and ETL processes is a plus.
Core Accountabilities
Lead the design, development, and implementation of BI tools, dashboards, and reporting solutions to meet business needs.
Analyze data to identify trends, patterns, and insights, providing actionable recommendations to inform decision-making.
Ensure alignment between stakeholders by understanding business needs and translating them into data requirements.
Design and produce regular and ad-hoc reports, dashboards, and visualizations to communicate data-driven insights effectively to various audiences.
Cleanse, manipulate, and transform data through programming/scripting to ensure accuracy and usability for analysis and reporting.
Break down complex business problems, analyze data, and provide subject-matter insights and recommendations.
Document and maintain operational procedures and processes related to analytics and reporting.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support the development and execution of strategic analytics and reporting initiatives.
Recommend and implement solutions to improve data processes, reporting efficiency, and alignment with business goals.
Attend and participate in inter-jurisdictional meetings and activities on an ad-hoc basis.
Act in a professional and responsible manner to protect the integrity of employees and the business of Rocky View County.
Display a professional and ethical responsibility to protect privacy, use information appropriately, and maintain the confidentiality and security of all information related to employees, business and residents of Rocky View County.

Position Requirements
Completion of Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, or a related field along with 3-5 years of experience in business intelligence, data analysis, or a similar role is required.
Strong analytical mindset with the ability to interpret complex data to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies, and be able to recommend data-driven solutions that address strategic business problems and align with organizational objectives.
Excellent communication and relationship building skills to engage with diverse cross-functional stakeholders, gather business requirements, deliver business-aligned solutions, and present data insights to technical and non-technical audiences.
Proficiency with BI tools and analytics platforms and data visualization techniques (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, QlikView, SAP BusinessObjects). Relevant certifications in BI tools are considered an asset.
Time management skills to handle multiple projects and deadlines and applying project management frameworks like Agile and Waterfall.
Strong attention to detail to deliver documentation for maintaining processes, reports, and dashboards.
Knowledge of data modeling and database design principles and experience with advanced analytics, machine learning, or predictive modeling is an asset.
Experience with SQL for querying and manipulating data (extraction, transformation, and analysis).
Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and ETL processes.
Experience with programming/scripting languages (e.g., Python, R) for data manipulation and analysis is an asset.
Understanding of cloud-based data platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google BigQuery) is an asset.
Adaptability and willingness to learn new tools and technologies.
