Business Immigration Law Clerk (14 Month Contract)

Job Description

The ideal candidate will be a confident, proactive, highly detail-oriented team player who possesses excellent organizational skills. Working with other law clerks, articling students, lawyers and clients, it is expected that the candidate will have a dedicated role within our Employment & Labour Group on a contract basis, focused on supporting the business immigration needs of our clients' employers and employees into Canada, and be able to manage a high volume of work with tight turnaround times.



Duration of Contract: 14 months



Location: Toronto Office





Key Responsibilities



Assist in all aspects of business immigration engagements and contribute to the delivering of solutions and ideas for our diverse client base, including:

liaising with and processing clients' applications, including, collecting documents, organizing documents, completing immigration forms, and preparing supporting documents; timely management of multiple files from beginning to end (i.e. initial document collection and review through to drafting, editing and final submission); detailed analysis of client documents; organization and maintenance of on-going file list; conducting research, as required and staying current with Canadian immigration programs; taking instructions from internal and external clients, obtaining information from immigration authorities, providing status reports and maintaining timely communication with clients and other stakeholders; and liaising with lawyers, students, clients and foreign counsel while providing high-quality, professional service.

Required Knowledge and Experience




Successful completion of the ILCO Corporate Law Clerk course or a law clerk certificate/diploma (or equivalent) offered by a recognized Ontario educational institution; 3-7+ years of business immigration law clerk experience, including proficiency with Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) and LMIA exemption processes;
Technical proficiency using the entire MS Office Suite; and Strong working knowledge of the Canadian business immigration program.
Experience with permanent residency applications is not required.*
