TEAM OVERVIEW:

Earth Observation at McCain operates as a new, independent start-up division under McCain Foods Limited. Through the use of satellite and other remote sensing technologies, the business unit delivers crop insights to McCain agriculture, farmers, and other non-competitive crop buyers to improve decision-making on crop production and agricultural practices under climate volatility.

The business unit aims to deliver data insight services globally across McCain and commercialize its offering for potato and other crops. We are a new, growing team looking to quickly scale this exciting technology.

This team will advance McCain\xe2\x80\x99s commitments to regenerative agriculture through smart and sustainable farming practices. Its growth feeds into McCain\'s purpose with sustainability at the heart of producing delicious, planet-friendly food.

JOB PURPOSE:

As our Business Development Manager, you will build and lead our key commercial activities. These activities will include customer relationship building, direct selling, post-sales customer support, developing future markets, and other related commercial activities that may arise. Key measures of success will include leads generated, new customers acquired, and revenue growth per customer.

This is our first dedicated commercially-focused team member and, as such, will begin as an individual contributor role. This individual will need to help define our product-market fit, drive use cases, and help refine our value proposition. As this individual succeeds and our commercial business grows, there will be an opportunity to develop a more robust function to support these activities.

This role can operate remote-first if the individual prefers. Hybrid and in-office work arrangements are also available within McCain\xe2\x80\x99s office footprint (primarily Toronto and Florenceville). There will be a requirement to be in-person roughly once per quarter for team workshops and events and there will be some travel required for sales and industry events.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Customer Relationship Building
  • Generate new leads
  • Understand customer needs and how our product can meet those needs. Translate customer needs to our technical teams.
  • Direct Sales
  • Develop sales materials
  • Identify and leverage effective sales channels (e.g., conferences, cold calling, referrals)
  • Communicate value to potential customers, supported by our broader team who can be leveraged for detailed customer conversations
  • Alongside Managing Director and Technology Lead, support customer negotiations and the development of final project scoping
  • Post-Sales Support
  • Participate in regular customer touchpoints to ensure they are driving value from the product
  • Liaise between customers and our QA team if any issues arise
  • Receive customer feedback and share feedback with the broader team to guide future development
  • New Market Growth
  • Research markets and customers outside of our traditional core for potential new revenue opportunities
  • Stay current on market trends
  • Actively participate in team leadership and prioritization discussions, providing a \xe2\x80\x9cvoice of the customer\xe2\x80\x9d to our technical team
KEY QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCES:
  • 5+ years of sales, business development, or related working experience
  • 2+ years of experience working in the agriculture sector
  • Understanding of and empathy for the unique challenges facing growers and the agriculture sector due to the volatility of climate change
  • Required Skills:
  • Strong written and oral communicator with experience writing outreach templates and creating / delivering presentations
  • Ability to explain technical product features effectively to non-technical customers
  • Strength in building rapport and maintaining long-term client relationships
  • Drive to generate new business
  • Ability to create structure around ambiguity as you define the business development function
  • Willingness to learn new concepts in the fields of advanced analytics, machine learning, and agriculture
  • Flexibility to evolve alongside this new role and function
