Job Summary:

Van-Kam Freightways Ltd. is looking for a Business Development Manager to join our team out of our the Northern BC Region. The Business Development Manager is responsible for prospecting sales and qualifying leads for new and existing accounts. They will be naturally curious, results-driven, and eager to bring our services to new markets. This person will act as a liaison between our customer and our company. The Business Development Manager will be the Freight Specialist/Coach for our customers and potential customers. Reports directly to the Sales Manager.

Van-Kam Freightways Ltd (Van Kam) is one of the largest regional carriers in Western Canada specializing in less-than-truckload (LTL) transportation. With 8 terminal locations across British Columbia, we fulfill shipments to communities within 1-3 days throughout BC and Alberta. Between our own resources and our partner network, our coverage extends beyond Western Canada into the U.S. and Eastern Canada.

Responsibilities:

  • Build strong relationships with new and existing customers. 60% new customers and 40% existing customers.
  • Contact and qualify leads - Prospect new sales leads by making an initial phone or email contact.
  • Manage current accounts \xe2\x80\x93 Stay in close contact with existing accounts or leads.
  • Customer support \xe2\x80\x93 Answer calls and emails from clients, identify the issue and make suggestions for the future.
  • Follow up on pricing requests.
  • Complete Administration work and notes daily.
  • Work with team and pass leads on when necessary.
  • Build relationships with internal departments.
  • Other duties/projects on a as needed basis.
Required Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Hands-on experience with multiple sales techniques (including cold calls)
  • Proven ability to close sales in person.
  • Intense follow up skills
  • \xe2\x80\x9cThink outside of the box\xe2\x80\x9d attitude
  • Able to \xe2\x80\x9cread\xe2\x80\x9d prospective clients
  • Strong negotiating skills
  • Familiarity with MS Excel (analyzing spreadsheets and charts)
  • Understanding of sales performance metrics
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Positive and professional attitude
Training and Experience:
  • A minimum of 5 years of sales experience is required.
