TELUS Health and LifeWorks have recently come together to leverage the power of technology and our caring cultures to further progress our shared goal of building a healthier and friendlier future for all. As a global-leading health and well-being provider \xe2\x80\x93 encompassing physical, mental and financial health \xe2\x80\x93 TELUS Health is improving health outcomes for consumers, patients, healthcare professionals, employers and employees.
Breaking Free was a UK-based SME founded in 2010 with a mission to increase people\xe2\x80\x99s access to effective behaviour change interventions and empower them to overcome their substance use difficulties, wherever possible through self-management. The business was acquired by LifeWorks in January 2022, and subsequently became part of TELUS Health in September 2022.
Breaking Free now operates within TELUS Health as a distinct business unit. We have a small, inter-connected and mutually supportive team of 9 people. We focus on developing, implementing, and evaluating evidence-based digital interventions for addressing substance use disorders (SUD). Our innovative digital solutions are grounded in robust behavioural science, and their effectiveness has been evidenced by 41 peer-reviewed studies published in UK, US, and Canadian scientific journals.
Currently, Breaking Free operates in three territories and focuses on government and public sector, healthcare and addiction treatment providers, and correctional agencies. In Canada, we have secured provincial-scale contracts in Ontario and Newfoundland & Labrador. In these provinces, our solution is utilized by healthcare service providers and offered direct-to-consumer, allowing people who do not wish to present to treatment services to self-manage their difficulties with alcohol or drugs. In the UK, the Breaking Free solution has been adopted widely by National Health Service organizations, leading addiction treatment providers and local government public health directorates. In the US, our focus has until now been on prisons, and our solution has been deployed by 15 state-level Departments of Corrections and numerous county and city jails.
